I meant it would be a gamble for him to stick with us. A run of bad luck would harm his chances of a future job with a club that might win something.
I know that Rafa wants to stay, but honestly, why would he? Mike Ashley pulls the same stunts every season to make sure he spends the absolute minimum. That is NEVER going to change. The old adage, 'Getting blood out of a stone' comes to mind. Two of the main reasons for our survival this season, Rafa & Rondon, will be exiting SJP and Ashley won't lift a finger to keep them.
Rafa has a no lose here. People say his reputation may take a battering if we went down. Not sure where that idea comes from, you listen to other fans and pundits they know full well the situation at Newcastle. His reputation will remain in tact regardless of his time at Newcastle. Indeed if anything we’ve rebuilt it after his Madrid disaster.
Rafa odds slashed for him to go to Celtic. Would he give it a go? Easy life in the league. Big club. Champions league. 10 in a row - historic?
Hilarious if Rodgers leaves Celtic for Leicester and rafa leaves Newcastle for Celtic. We are a small club
Rafa's tactics would go terribly with a team like Celtic. Mind you could play one defender in that league and still keep a clean sheet. If he goes anywhere remotely **** it'll be somewhere like China for big money. I genuinely believe he's staying here.
Whoever's betting on that needs to pay more attention to those 'gamble responsibly' adverts. He has nothing to gain from a spell up there. His reputation would only improve with a European cup run, which is unlikely for a team that plays Dundee 3 times a season. He's not brendan Rodgers so he doesn't need a few easy league titles to restore faith in him as a good manager. If he would have gone anywhere it would have been maybe Rangers, if they were prepared to spend money. Why would he join a team that is guaranteed to win a barely competitive league and is full of players that are all looking for a move to the top two English leagues? Non-starter this.
Sky Sports’ Keith Downie says that increasing speculation of Benitez to Celtic is a non-starter because Celtic could not afford to pay the wages Benitez would want.
I firmly believe he'll stay. I just hope if he does that's for longer than the 1 year contract that was on the table earlier in the season.....don't wanna be doing this **** every season like.
Christ at least they have Barca, Rangers have walked back up to 2nd spending less than a league one team.
