You should support only two teams - your hometown team (or a team you have a decent connection to that isn't being a plastic glory supporter) and your national team. Take an interest in another team? That's fine. There's plenty of other teams I take interest in. Support another team? Absolutely not, top ****ery that.
Choosing who you support - i.e. inevitably an incredibly more successful team than your roots, is representative of many things (many bad things) but I also see it as a form of cheating. A form of cheating where the same old time-served maxim is pertinent: you are only cheating yourself.
I do respect fans from other clubs. Imagine being a Grimsby fan, or Torquay. They know without any shadow of a doubt they will never reach the top. They are genuine real fans.
We were genuine real fans at one point. But I don’t have respect for Grimsby fans. They’re on a par with Liverpool fans.
They may be ****s, but at least they are ****s who have chosen to support their local club rather than glory support. Fair play to them.
You can have all the money in the world & still not win things! Real Madrid, got beat 3-1 yesterday by Real Sociedad, won nothing this season except the Club World Cup, beating Al Ain from the UAE! Paris SG, won Ligue 1 & their Charity Shield. Barcelona, won La Liga & their Charity Shield.
Was reading a newspaper comments the other day. Someone had posted about proper fans supporting their local club and that they had nothing against people from Liverpool who supported Liverpool or from Manchester who supported United but real fans had nothing but contempt for those who chose to support them over their local club. Loads of posts justifying their gloryhunting twattery but the pick of the bunch was one that said anyone could support their local team as you only had to go a couple of miles but the real fans were those who travelled long distances to watch the club they have chosen to support, not the local club morons as he called them. An example of the thinking and sort of people that have infected football and spoilt it.
Maybe it is. But it happens in every sport in every country practically. It's not a new theme it's being going on for years and years. I don't see the point in people (Not saying you specifically) getting angry about it. People can choose to support anyone they want. It often comes down to their local clubs often not engaging them and trying to get them to support them. I imagine in 3-5 years there will be a hell of a lot more shirts from big clubs due to our no concessions policy we instated a couple of years back. To grow as a team/club you probably near glory supporters. If we averaged 4k in Boothferry (No idea my first game was 1996 as a 4 year old) and continued to do that in the KC we wouldn't have got to the Premier League.
Who'll win things next year? Barcelona? PSG? Real Madrid? Or maybe it will be Scunthorpe, AFC Wimbledon or Southend. Where would you put your money?
Paris, Barca but it all depends on how many 100's of millions Real score & how many 100's of millions the other 2 spend. Was your rant not originally aimed at Man City?
The owners have done more damage than anybody . We'd finally got local people going too and talking about City . People who previously supported and went to other clubs had started going to City . I'm affraid a lot of these will have gone back to their other teams and prob got their kids supporting them
