This season, to be honest, has had some great races, but really, for the whole championship, it's just been Vettel all the way. Sure, at times it looked like Hamilton could possibly mount a challenge, and he probably could have if he didn't crash so much (I think he'd have at least 60 more points without the DNF's!!!), but admit it, in your heads, you knew from about race 5 that it was gonna be Vettel.
I think it has been Red Bull all the way for the last 2 seasons (starting mid season 2009). Because of Vettels inconsistency it nearly costed him the title last year. He has been much more solid this year but place him in a McLarren or a Ferrari he would definitely not have had 112 points advantage. Surely among the top runners, but not 112 points. I need to see Vettel dominate more teammates than Webber(who I think is also pretty good just having a bad momentum atm) in the future and repeatedly before I can compare him with Schumacher 2002.
If you could take all 5 of the current racing World Champions at their peak and stick them in identical RB7s... Who do you think would come out on top over a season? Even though many would disagree and certainly not a popular opinion, I'd personally lean towards Schumacher. People claim had lacked serious competition, but I'm of the opinion that in his prime, he made many other drivers look ordinary.
I agree with your general assessment Samurai. But I think it's a shame your 'article' (quoted here) made reference to only half its subject matter! Doesn't Schumacher deserve a mention in an article that is apparently 50% about him?
I think schumachers 2004 was even more dominant. Why do people think of 02 for dominant seasons? What about 88 and 89 for McLaren?
yeah from australia to hungary he won every race except monaco from a small driver error that meant a pointless retirement he was untouchable in that season although I think the 2002 ferrari was better as they had more points than all the other teams combined
Schumacher followed by Alonso as they are both equally cool headed and clever enough to find and take advantages of any given opportunity. Vettel showed last year that he is not always so good under pressure but maybe he have matured but I think he would have some problems driving in an equal car without team orders.
I'd hate to see how good vettel is next year. If one title makes him more mature, then a second will just elevate him to an even higher level. I'm off to put money on a 3rd world title for him next year.
How the hell could Hamilton have gotten 60 more points he's only had 2 DNF's a max loss of 50 points and that's only if he would have won both those races, the thread is called Vettal v Schumacher where is the Schumacher bit? Yet another pointless thread to big up Vettal. I'm going to start threads on Button's overtakes this year, but if I follow the format of the Vettal overtake threads I will have to start 52 of them and discuss each overtake in exquisite detail and bore everyone else senseless.
surely you'll need a whiteboard to analyse button's moves in detail, such as car positioning, tactics, tyre management, fuel managent etc. (Bored yet?)
It's Newey, the car will be great. I expect the 2013 car to suck though. He does have a bad one occasionally. Look at the first version of the 1994 williams. Slow, and killed their best driver.
I was referring to next years world championship not Vettal driving ability, If I thought next years championship was already tied up it would be just as well that F1 is going to SKY
In a way isn't vettel domination worse for this sky deal? We could be getting F1 back on the BBC after the first year if it repeats again lol!
He does but usually at the start of that particluar model's incarnation. The 94 Williams developed into the dominant 96 & 97 machines. It took him a few years to get the McLaren's sorted too, though he was up against it with the Schuey/Brawn/Byrne/FIA Ferrari. Its taken him a while to get Red Bull up and running too, so the big hope the others have is that when there is a huge change in the regulations he won't get it right first time (history shows this to be true)
I don't think Vettel win next year. Alonso, Hamilton, JB and Mark will be even more pissed off and trust me if I was them I would spend the whole winter shouting at the designers to build a better car. And if I was Mark I would just relax and stay calm and do what he did in 2010, because he knows he can be faster than Seb.
Too late Maybe, but I'd prefer a last minute decision to make F1 free to air by law so we get to see it anyway.... Unlikey?
