We have 4 English teams in the finals of the two top competitions. Feeling smug? The press are having a field day about the power of the premiership.

We were very very very close to having only one English team in these Finals.

Liverpool. Could easily have been Barcelona. they were favourites after 3-0 up. Could easily have been the Spanish team instead.

Spurs. Literally last kick of the match to go through. Ajax was 3-0 up and playing at home with 35 minutes remaining and were favourites at that point. Their striker missed 2 golden chances in that 2nd half. Unexpected but could clearly have been a Dutch team as a finalist.

Chelsea: result in the balance until the pens. Were behind in the shootout to Frankfurt until the Germans missed their 2 pens. Chelsea could easily have missed out until the last few kicks.

Arsenal: comfortable passage.

So on another day, with the toss of a coin it could easily have been 1 Dutch team, 1 Spanish team, 1 English and 1 German team in those finals.

Shows how in football we are talking about extremely fine margins. The 4 English teams going into the finals not necessarily a sign of domination. 3 non- English teams could deem themselves unlucky not to be in the finals. Superiority no; more like determination to play to the final whistle as well as some luck for them (and bad luck for their opponents).

don't forget spurs were lucky just to be in knockouts.

don't forget we were lucky to get out of knockouts as well.

like... ok the two Europa clubs have never been in doubt truthfully right up to when Chelsea tried to **** it right up.

i dont get this 'lucky' argument

Every team has moments of luck in every single game...an opposition defender out of position is good luck i suppose. The goal keeper having arms an inch too short is good luck too. 5 minutes injury time instead of 4 to whack in a winner is lucky too?

In this game you make your own luck by being persistent...what you cant vouch for is **** referees

Anyone would think he played for Liverpool.

Not 100% why you tagged me, we got loads of cash for [HASHTAG]#doingalukaku[/HASHTAG] and he got fat. He did pick up a trophy or two along with his wage so can’t blame him.

At the end of the day (sorry !) every goal AND win could be interpreted as a lucky one if we pursue your argument. Own goals are clearly luck for the winner. A GK fumbling or deflections unlucky for the losers too. Everton were unlucky to he beaten at Anfield by a weird goal. I've even heard that the mancs were unlucky to be beaten by us at Anfield via 2 deflected goals. Frankfurt unlucky to be out by missing 2 pens in the shootout when they were leading? Spurs unlucky at Anfield by the fumbling of Loris in the last minute?

We could even push that argument to the limit to say that most football results are based on luck and winners of competitions especially cup knock out ones are just champions because they had luck in that tournament. When either spurs or LFC win the CL could anyone rationally say that either were really lucky to win it?

Greece was lucky to win the euros whenever it was. Eufa made sure the host nation!!!! got lucky, and they made their own luck as well along the way.

as i said before, **** happens.

if you do your best and **** happens then **** happens.

it's only if you know in your heart you didn't get the best and didn't do your best that you can then complain.

this is why Garry Neville had his massive rant.

look at luke Shaw. he was fit and played well against us at old trafford. frankly i didnt see them til last weekend and the guy is a ****ing pudding again. why is he at?

look at pogba.. you know he s a passenger.

look at messi when Barca are under pressure. if you look at his meters run its pathetic. he just plays when the ball comes.

I think yiu are saying that the successful teams (the ones winning or challenging for trophies) are the ones who put themselves through teamwork or desire or talent to benefit the most from any luck coming their way?

yes. the better you are the more luck seems to fall your way cos you are there to take advantage.

look at inehancho or however you spell the donkeys name. put though by brilliant play by that young midfielder and he just swings a **** left at it and outs it wide when he could even take a touch.

then kompany smashes one in on the other hand.

it's not fate or destiny it's just the breaks.

tomorrow I wouldn't expect Brighton to have more than 2 or 3 shots max. they just don't have the firepower or quality. but they could score a corner for all I know.. they might even get one corner <laugh>

city will be patient, they will make damned sure they are first to everything and if not they foul immediately. they only games imo they lost is where they looked tired and not getting to things first.
