Rodgers full tactical knowledge amounted to "ex-player must score against old club" so I'll put him on.
Yup. It’s incredible really. You have to say this city squad are the best the prem has ever seen. No question about it. Ignore how it’s been assembled, the depth and quality of the squad is outrageous. They don’t have stones, Fernandinho, de Bruyne, sane, Mahrez, Jesus in the starting 11 today. 6 players that would get into near enough every side in the prem. they set set the bar last season and walked it. To do it again this year was twice as hard and us pushing them to the last game is ridiculous. I don’t think you’ll see two teams fight it out this well all season for a long time. Between us we’ve dropped 33 points all season. Gap to 3rd is 27 points! That’s more than the bottom 2 clubs have got ffs.
They've laboured over results recently. I thought this would be a game too far. Took a wonder strike in the end. Won't hide the fact I'm relieved tbh, but without De Bruyne they're nowhere near as good. Machine probably describes them best.
Put a fully fit de Bruyne and Fernandinho in that team and they are a totally different animal. They have missed those two a lot (of games) this season.
Obviously it would've been great if City dropped points tonight and Leicester got something, I, like all of us, was hoping that would be the outcome Saying that, I also just wanted Leicester to give City a game and try to take it to them, like Newcastle did against us, which they did as much as was possible facing that side, they had a go and competed, so you have to commend them for that and it makes events somewhat more palatable Kompany's goal was just crazy, but also I suppose totally predictable and bound to happen, a lot gets said about him on the pitch but from his reaction after the final whistle and other stories about him he actually seems a decent guy
Gutted. They SHOULD have dropped 2 points tonight. Then kompany hits a worldie in the last 20 minutes. Of all people. Ridiculous and sickening. This was to be THE match. Now it is down to Brighton pulling off a miracle. They played well against Arsenal and fingers crossed they can give City a game. Come on Brighton. Surely you don't want a defeat.
Sadly, you have to say this weekend was the last chance in that you're always more likely to drop points against Leicester than Newcastle. Next weekend, who would you rather be playing - Wolves or safe Brighton? Exactly. Someone shut that warbling fat lady up.
I never give up hope until there's no hope, but I really can't see Brighton getting anything from that game.
Your biggest problem is City are out of the CL, if they had to field a competitive team midweek it could make a difference. Maybe that is why the rumour that VvD is injured for tomorrow has been put out, the CL is almost gone for you now so save the top lads for the last push at the title.
The CL has not affected our results. I don't think it would have City. It now looks that the CL is more likely than the premiership. That's difficult enough with us having to start well. We need to be perfect on the night. I am still hoping against hope. It would be so disappointing if we having reached the final stages of the 2 most important competitions (which very few premiership teams have done) then are left empty handed. The CL is difficult but at least it is in our hands. We have to believe we can score at least 3 against them .
he scores a few every season doesn't he? He banged in a decent one last year @ 1:43. Obviously todays was a much better screamer
Definitely. If VVD has one game in him in the next week, it must be Wolves. We have to finish with 97 points and hope against hope. If we threw in all our lot against Barca and still came up short (odds on), then didn't get three points against Wolves and City slipped up... nightmare scenario. Slim chance in either competition now, but the league is total priority.
