With the PL millions, we no longer need to sell but as Cromer points out we are small fry and will always be a selling club, under a far more sensible management team we won't even stretch as far as we have done previously and that leaves all of our best players young or old vunerable to bids and double/triple/quadruple your money offers. It might appear mental, but what if Max or Ben are offered more than double the wages we can/will offer? They quite probably will ask to leave. Do we keep a player asking to leave? Let's just ask Mr Pritchard. We are in a different more financially healthy position, but I think the mantra that we don't want players who don't want to be here will stand. Much will depend on the offers received. If I were Max or Ben for example and was offered double the money to join a top 6 side, I think I would decline as it would be a 1 way ticket to u23 footy. But like Madders, a stable PL side doubling our offer and in a career that can be ended in an instant, suddenly becomes extremely tempting. We can only speculate as to what the club can offer. 5 years at £25kpw? Less probably! OK so injured tomorrow that is still in theory £6.5m but after taxes (Assuming they're paying them!) Are they set for life? A prudent one yes. Double that and it gets a lot easier to be confident they will never have to truly be cautious with their money. As footballers they can think of it as a life in 3 series or range rovers. They will likely want their RR's Loyalty vs money, ultimately 1 winner. Bah!
Fair comment Cromer, but I'm going to'stick my neck out' and say I'll be AMAZED if more than 2 of our stars are not playing in yellow nod green net season!! Why leave now??? If they stay, they are almost guaranteed to be part of the first team squad/playing regularly, as well as continuing to develop/improve. Also, by getting exposure to the PL and want to move at the end of the season they'll command a much higher price and can demand a higher salary. WIN, WIN!!! Edit - You make a sound discussion General, but I stand by what I said to Cromer and feel that some of then at least will do a Huckerby and tell their agents where to go!!! Move this summer for £15M and a salary of £40kpw, or move next summer for £20M and a salary of in excess of £50kpw. You do the maths.
I think there are several reason to be optimistic I'm not sure any of our young up & coming have reach their peak or got anywhere near, other than possible Cantwell Webber is in charge and positions with in the club are being filled on the bases of ability to do the job rather than an old boys attitude. For the first time in many, many years we are not in a position where we have to sell. Webber is in charge and Farke is marshalling the troops rather than the manager being chief inmate in the asylum. For the first time since Lambert / McNally got us promoted to the PL everyone at the club seems to be pulling in the right direction. Webber is in charge and we have a clear and entertaining playing style (similar to the early days of Lambert). Win or lose no one can say we're not entertaining. Oh and did I mention Webber is in charge.
Excellent canario and as you mentioned - the 'lunatics are NO longer running the asylum', so we have an excellent chance of holding on to most of our emerging talent and it's evident that everyone enjoys playing and know their roles within the team!! Did I say TEAM?? NO stars/egos.
Hmm. Pinto, Nelson, Franke and Raggatt going for free then. I'm sure Naismith, Jarvis, Whilschut all run out this summer, so then will leave on a free too. Rhodes and Passlack loan will end. All those players leaving for nothing, really glad we are getting these Premiership millions. Will be great to see them off the wage bill.
Actually, Oliveira's contract with us will have another year to run (30th June 2020) I'm afraid. It's his loan contract that runs out at the end of this month.
Just published on Club website, Pinto to Leave when his contract expires on June 30th https://www.canaries.co.uk/News/2019/may/ivo-pinto-contract-expires-norwich-city/
Aww. Bye bye Ivo! On the Scrimmage podcast Russ Martin said he was trying to get Ivo down to play. Hopefully that will be his chance to say goodbye. Edit- They mention in the article he will be at the Wes Vs Russ game. That's good.
But if you are Max, you must surely have belief in your skills. He came to Norwich from Luton to better himself and further his career for sure, but Luton clearly have a great youth system (They ain't half producing a lot of good younguns) so I'm afraid the primary driver may too have been money, he must have thought his chances of first team football better there, surely? So Max rightly then believed he could thrive at a higher level, took a chance in a short career and joined us. Do you not think he would do that again? It might not happen but his belief would be that who ever came in for him if spending £15-20m would want him to play and he would believe he could. I'm sure he's sensible enough to look at the current incumbant and think whether he is better than them and come to a decision. If I was in his shoes I'd take the money. Play well as Maddison has for Leicester and even bigger fish may come calling. As much as playing for farke and City has seen our youngsters thrive, coaching at the big clubs is hardly going to be poor and new eyes can help raise a game further (So as long as they don't sign for a Pulis type gaffer, they should be alright where ever they are, stay or go. I'd love us to play hardball with any of our youngsters if they get better offers, but do you want a disgruntelled player? Bah!
Oh ffs that took me ages looking at transfer market and forgot Wildshit Jarvis and Naismith out . ****ing do it yourselves next time I have had enough .
I would sit him down and remind him of the Murphy's Pritchard and Leroy Fer all back where they started again .
Ivo moving on is an indication of how far we've moved on. Many clubs would want to keep an experienced PL player after promotion, but SW is concentrating on the long term future. Hopefully it also means that the chances of signing Mehdi Zeffane are looking good. As for Max, at 19 he is still young and developing under a youth oriented coaching team which has accelerated that development through playing week in and week out. Madders and the Murphys were all at least 21 when they left and when we needed to sell. SW has confirmed that we've received no offers for players, so it's all just hot air from the journos so far.
I'm guessing we'd have a sell on? "Crystal Palace and Burnley could move for Cardiff's former England under-20 winger Josh Murphy, 24, should the Bluebirds get relegated from the Premier League."
Che Adams, valued at £15m will not be coming to CR. With only £20m in the kitty then we could look for 2@£10m or 3@£6.67m or 4@£5m. Seems small beer considering that approx. £150m is coming our way even with increase in wage bill. Keeping the rest in case we get relegated in the first season?
