Shane long works hard and gives 110% every game. BUT until recently his goal scoring has been pics poor.

    Is he pulling a sagnowski?

    Deal or no deal....?

For me it's a yes but would be interested on other opinions.

    I would, but not a "long" one...

His speed is his main asset and although he still looks in great condition when he loses that yard of pace he will only be half the player IMO.

No, but I'd not be against letting him stay until the end of his current deal. (summer of 2020)

He'd break Sir Stanley Matthew's record!

Absolutely this. Don’t get rid, keep him until next summer and then see how he is and maybe offer him a one year deal, or let him go on a free with our blessing then.

No I too think we should let him go after his contract is up. He should be replaced though with someone with a bit of speed to compensate.

Think he's worth an extra year. The question is would that be long enough in his eyes...although he seems very happy here, he might think that he needs a longer contract at this point even if it means leaving. He suits Ralph's style and we know we are not going to get half a dozen great new players in the summer....and sadly that extra year may mean he finishes at the same time as Ralphie <wah>

Saints legend is Shane. Let him stay as Long as he likes.

Let his contract run-out. Best for us and him. A decision can be made thereafter, unless Liverpool want a straight swap to Sadio Mane. I which case he can go straightaway. It's only fair for him!! :emoticon-0142-happy

He's earned his right to be in the mix for next season at the very least on the bench. He's been helpful at the back end of the season. Best thing to do is tell him to prove next season he deserves an extension (and that if he does he will get one). If he can keep his pace and work rate for a few more years he will be worth keeping as a squad player. He sets a good example to the team always trying his best.

He put in a phenomenal shift today. There was one moment in the second half when Bournemouth were in possession around halfway, with no-one closing them down, and Shane ran 30 yards from the edge of the box to tackle and win a throw. He did similar stuff all the game.

If Ralph gives him a new deal that's good enough for me, the man is well liked in the dressing room apparently.

Long will be 33 at the end of next season. We're well into the diminishing returns portion of his career, even with this purple patch. Let him see out his contract, unless someone offers more than he's worth in the summer.

Let him see out his contract next season and then let him finish his playing days at Reading.

I feel like if someone else is offering him 2+ years, he would be smart to take it.

And a bigger role. Long has gotten and will probably continue to get minutes here, but he's always going to be down the pecking order.

I'd be of the same opinion as most. Let him see out next year and we can reassess them. I'd prefer him to come back to Ireland to see out the end of his career. Most likely back to cork.
