Thanks for the responses everyone. And sorry I've been late to announce it on here after so many people had been so helpful (stupid Easter, and various other matters I won't bore you with). Anyway, the book is out. It is available on Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/109152548X/?tag=not606-21) and will soon be in Waterstones in Hull (all being well in a week or so) as well as being for sale at the launch night at Mr Chu's on May 4th. The response so far has been fantastic. And as OLM posted above, it has reached the number one bestseller rank in Amazon's football books over the weekend. Thanks to all those who have bought it. It will hopefully raise a decent amount for Dove House. I really, really hope you enjoy it.
Hope you’re going to change your username to RichardG (Best Selling Author) Congratulations on producing a wonderful insight into the decade. Thank you.
Thank you, Sir Cheshire Ben. It's very nerve-wracking waiting to hear people's responses, but Amazon's charts would suggest that at least people are buying the thing!
I will buy the book for my husband's upcoming 81st birthday- he only reads 1 book a year ! His book for next year(Xmas present) will be one written by a poster on here about Neil Franklin. Franklin was a great favourite of my husband in his time at Hull City. I read at least 2 books/week but have only ever read one on football. Titled 'Puskas on Puskas' it was of interest because I knew a guy who played football with Puskas in Hungary when I lived in South Africa. In the 60's he played in SA with my husband with whom he shared a company house. He fled Hungary after the Soviet invasion in the mid 50's and had an interesting tale to tell about living in Hungary and thereafter.
I've put it on my Amazon Wish List for Christmas Richard. Sounds like a terrific book to add to my Hull City bookshelf. Congratulations on your #1 Ranking already!!!
Well I do read a lot of posts on here , mostly football related , people post things all over the place though so easy to miss if you don't read every thread . Somebody answered my question though so it's all good .
If Alfie's contributions to my book (and the other stuff he's written) is any indicator, then his Neil Franklin book will be fantastic. I'll certainly be buying. Also look out for a City book by a bloke called Greg Whitaker due for release later on this year. Also promises to be very good. On the rare occasion that I ventured into other clubs' club shops, I was always jealous about how many options their fans had regarding reading material. I like to think that we're getting towards such levels now at City. Anyone who doesn't own Nick Turner's historical books about Hull City really should. They are proper works of beauty. I love them. And there are some very good fan account books out there too, with Ian Bunton's highly enjoyable 46 and Counting being the most recent.
I was talking to Geoff Bielby today, he was saying that the book launch at Mr Chu’s promised to be a good night with a fair few legends in attendance, Waggy etc. What time’s KO Richard?
It's a 7.30pm start. We're working hard to get a decent number of former players there - I think we're getting into double figures now. Some are still 'hopeful' but can't confirm, but it should be fun regardless.
I tried to approach the book with an open mind when it came to contributors. I tried not to only speak to anti-Allam people, for example, or narrow things to my own circle or people I'm familiar with. I was never going to try to speak to the Allams, as they came along after the book ends. But I did have a list of people who were forbidden from having anything to do with the book, and that list simply read: John Prescott. His pretending to be a lifelong City fan to support the Allams during the name-change issue - and the way he used his celebrity to push their agenda in the national press - sickened me. We needed the support of local politicians many times in the 90s when we were fighting for our survival and he was nowhere to be seen. As soon as the Sky cameras turn up from 2008 onwards, and he's everywhere. I would assume there's a decent chance he'll be at Mr Chu's that night, given that a) it will be open, and b) see point 'a'. I will want nothing to do with him, however.
If John Prescott turns up I’ll be buying my copy of The Decade and immediately leaving, I cannot stand the bloke!
