L.Hamilton looked a bit like a spent force in Monza today, His start was OK and he would have been a contender for all 3 steps of the podium from immediately behind Alonso and Vettel but then he fell asleep behind the wheel under the safety car and it went downhill from there. He couldn't get past Schumacher for ages and then Button hung around and when he felt like it he drove past the both of them and dissapeared and Hamilton was still stuck there. Anyway Adrian Newey doesn't look like leaving Red-Bull anytime soon and neither does Vettel, Alonso is at ferrari for around 5 or so more years and is in true form, and Hamilton is stuggling not to lose too much ground to his teammate. The more time that passes without the championship the more ragged he is becoming, do you think he will ever become a double WDC? While Vettel may be compared to Senna, I think Hamilton is destined for the J. Villeneuve comparisons.
Did anybody else notice Lewis being very upset today? Looked like he had just finished having a good sob behind closed doors. With regard to winning another WDC? surely!
I dont buy into the possible GOAT of all time hyperbole, but surely he will get his hands on another WDC
I think he's got too many years ahead of him not to. But I think Alonso and Vettel are both better than him, and Button as well at this moment in time, potentially Kubica too if he comes back the force he was. In a title contending car I'd expect Lewis to beat Jenson over a season. Whether or not he'll get the car is another thing, Newey and Vettel are devastating combo and I expect them to still be in the sport after Hamilton retires, Alonso's currently beating him in a worse car and I'd back Fernando out of the two of them even if Lewis had a slight car advantage. Basically getting the right car is crucial. His driving and occasionally his behaviour wouldn't have endeared him to team principles (including Whitmarsh), which could restrict his ability to get in/stay with a top team. Obviously you'd be happy to stay with McLaren for the rest of your career, but if he was three years older than and driving the way he is I think they'd seriously consider replacing him. I think he'll end up with two or three, but wouldn't be at all surprised if he got stuck on just the one.
Probably having to constantly bite his tongue in interview made his eyes water. I was surprised, and a little disappointed he wasn't more outspoken over Schumacher, he had every right to be in my opinion and showed remarkable restraint both in the car and out of it.
This is quite a bold statement to make, especially given Hamilton's natural talent and current age but: I don't think he will win another Championship.
I think the team are fed up of having a PR nightmare, whenever he speaks his mind. Maybe Whitmarsh had a word with him.
Even Newey has been known to build a howler from time to time... So don't count on such dominance for years to come. I wouldn't say he looked like a spent force at all. His tussle with Schumacher was epic from where I was sat and I think after recent events, I think he was a little pass shy. Button sat and reaped the rewards of their tusstle... Hamiltons grass clipping and Schumacher burning his rear tyres out combined to offer Button a gift. A very wise way of getting those positions though. Hamilton will take another title... maybe more than one other. People seem very keen to write him off.
This is quite a Italic statement to make, especially given Hamilton's natural talent and current age but: I think he will get one more, but Vettel will get 3 wdc by the time he retires
He won a championship in his second season, missed out by 1 point as a rookie, of course he can in another world title, its all about the car Lewis has a few unfortunate races and everyone jumps on his back, it was only 4 races ago he won a great race in Germany. He is also just 14 points from 2nd place in the championship with lots of races to go.
I can see Vettel winning 2 more titles (not including this year), Hamilton winning another 1 or 2, and Alonso getting a 3rd title himself. Maybe Button can sneak one too.
It isn't just about the car, it's also how you drive it and where your head is at whilst you are driving it, and it's the 3rd of these that is the problem, maybe the success came too soon and went to his head, now he has Vettel to deal with as well as Alonso, with Kobayashi sure to get the drive his talent deserves sooner or later. I was happy with his responses in the interview, a wry smile and a silent mouth spoke louder than a dummy being spat. Personally I hope he goes back to having his dad as his manager as his dad will always have Lewis' best interests at heart.
