That is brilliant. Compare the enthusiasm of the fans jumping up and down compared to the staid way so many slowly rise to politely applaud before quickly sitting down nowadays. Everyone staying behind to join in celebratine escaping relegation... Everytime I see Deano's goal I think of someone I knew who was terminally ill at the time. Only in his late 40s and one of those who went during all the bad times. Kept saying he would get better and see City in the PL if we got there. It became obvious he wouldn't and after a brief rally he was taken into hospital. His lad got permission to rig a TV up near his bed so he could see the play off final. He lapsed into a coma on the Friday. Never woke up and died on the Monday without knowing we had done it.
After watching that video I'll pay whatever the cost. I need two or three copies. Those years were better than anything since.
I've liked that, but I didn't really mean 'like' if you get what I mean. Stories such as that are heartbreaking. I feature a little bit on young Billy Fletcher in the book, as that really hit home at the time, but when you hear about such tragic cases as this it makes you realise just how lucky you've been. Thank you for sharing.
I'm proud to have been party to that journey - it's a real shame about the destination we've arrived at but ........ **** me, I wouldn't have missed that journey for anything!
****ing brilliant clip, got summat in my eye half way through. Can’t wait for the book. **** you Allam’s, you can’t take any of that away!!!
They can't ever take those memories away and that is why RichG's (Sounds like a biscuit, lol), book is such a good idea. Such precious memories.
May 24th 2008 the Thomas Cook Special Train to Kings X cost = just £60 First and possibly only ever time to Wembley with City. Got the alcohol on in 'fruit juice' bottles and some table seats, let the booze flow and the bullshit chat kick in....well before Goole. Win lose or ****ing draw....no way will we let this be a bore. A day never to be surpassed but **** me we didn't let it lie with that day. 3 more Wembley visits, Lokeren via Ghent, Trencin via Bratislava, Peking via Dubai, Salzburg via Wien Out of the time frame of the book I suppose but never to be forgotten trips right up there with Hillsborough 2004
I'll second that, for us fans that was the best period I have experienced, and that included the 1965-70 period. The Allam's would have you believe they brought the best times to City, but nothing compares to the period in this video IMO.
One hell of a video that. Almost forgotten what it was like back then. Remember leaving fer ark after that final league game v Darlo almost in bits. Never thought I would be doing the Conga at Yeovil,or being part of thousands taking over Hillsborough that night when we made a statement about our intent. Mad scenes when Folan slotted home v Fulham, I thought about me dad who we had lost,he never got the chance to see all this. Like I say,it’s an video which reflects the rise of a football club from the shackles of relative failure before going through the leagues like a dose of salts culminating in that glorious day at Wembley. Jury’s out if those days will ever get repeated, but if anyone wants to buy a club I would suggest they watch this first, then go sign the cheque. City till I snuff it.
Cardiff City are set to claim the deal to buy Emiliano Sala from Nantes for £15m was not legally binding. The Bluebirds are refusing to make interim payments for the striker, who died in a plane crash on 21 January. Cardiff will tell world football's governing body Fifa that Nantes' conditions for completion of the deal were not fulfilled and Sala was not registered as a Premier League player. Nantes claim the required paperwork was completed. The French club referred the matter to Fifa, who want Cardiff to submit their evidence by 3 April. Sala, 28, was Cardiff's record signing, announced on Saturday, 19 January. The Argentine died when an aircraft piloted by David Ibbotson, who is still missing, crashed into the English channel near Guernsey. The club was due to pay a first instalment on 20 February. A Cardiff source said the transfer agreement stipulated - at the request of Nantes - that the Football Association of Wales and France's Ligue de Football Professional had to confirm the registration to both clubs by 22 January, along with confirmation of the international transfer certificate being released. The Premier League also had to clear the registration. The Bluebirds insist the terms of the contract maintains that if any parts of that arrangement were not confirmed, then the deal would be null and void. They claim: Ligue de Football Professionel had not contacted Cardiff either before or after 22 January. The FAW did not confirm with Nantes. The Ligue de Football Professional did not confirm with Nantes until 25 January. It is thought the notifications clause was inserted because if the deal fell through, both Cardiff and Nantes would have had time to seek a new player before the January transfer window closed on 31 January. BBC Sport has also learned arrangements for a signing-on fee did not meet Premier League rules and so had been rejected by the league. A Cardiff spokesman would not comment on specific details but said: ''The club is aware of Fifa's request for a response by 3 April and is processing that accordingly. We have no further comment at this stage.'' Nantes say they completed all the necessary paperwork and have pointed out Fifa registered the international transfer certificate on 21 January. They say they have been fully compliant with Fifa's rules.
I have to say that is an amazing video, well done to all of you involved. I can't lie, the video brought me to tears. I remember sharing every single one of those moments with my Old Man which makes it even more special. I can't wait for this book, and whatever you charge I will pay it just to relive every single one of those amazing memories. Makes you realise how lucky I am to support my local club and follow them through everything.
I'll be going on loads about my book on here in the coming week or so as it is nearly available for ordering, but we'll be having a launch - organised by the Hull City Supporters Trust - at Mr Chu's on May 4th, 7.30pm. Some former players will be in attendance. We'll confirm as soon as they confirm. Here's a flyer for it:
