afternoon, gents! exeter,3 15: well, not the most original choice, but it has to be MELEKHOV for me too.his second to a well-touted nicholls horse last time out is by some way the best form on offer.so,should go very well today..
Those two in the Fielden came right away. Both look genuine and I thought Walkinthesand was far from the finished article (ran green, especially going into the dip). Will be interesting to see where they go next. I'd think Kick On may not want much further while Walkinthesand may prefer 10f. Chapman asking sensible questions about the going.
finally back with a winner, what a relief! newmarket,3 35: NELL GWYN STAKES MAIN EDITION is a very tough and honest filly, and i like her a lot,so she has to be high on the list here, but dangers aplenty..
Went against my better judgement backing a Johnston runner in the Free Handicap and got what I deserved. Johnston seems pretty clueless with the higher quality horses and Main Edition was weak in the market and very poor in the Nell Gwyn. Probably one of these will pop up at huge odds for Johnston later in the season, as is his style. Delighted with the effort from Walkinthesand in the Fielden. He took a walk in the market for sure but ran a belter, though never quite looking like he would catch the Gosden runner, who kept on in determined fashion. It was a decent effort from the Hannon colt who was shunned by the backers. Western Australia was a mugs bet in my eyes today. That was a real egg and spoon race that he failed to win first time out this year but the tipsters could not see past him in general. Frankie Dettori lazily tipped the favourite up and the rest of the team never gave Walkinthesand a word at all. Kadar seems a figment of Karl Burke's imagination in the main. His form to this point left him with plenty to do today and he was unsurprisingly weak in the betting. These TV pundits leave me cold and I think they get money for nothing in terms of the effort they make in actually studying the form. I left the Nell Gwyn alone today. I read earlier in the week that Mot Juste would badly need the race today and I thought Angel's Hideaway was fully exposed last season. It is hard to imagine that race having any impact on the Guineas and I am becoming more convinced that Skitter Scatter will bring enough from last season to win the 1000 Guineas on her seasonal debut. Each to their own but I reckon Qabala is awful value at 5/1 for the Guineas and she beat a poor field there today.
I've had a bet on Chasing Dreams for the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. She looked above average and very speedy in the 4.10 Newmarket today. Wesley Ward's Lady Pauline opened as 4/1 favourite for the 5F fillies race at the Royal meeting but the trainer's 2YO's were more miss than hit last season and at 11/4 now she needs taking on. Charlie Appleby's daughter of Starspangledbanner looks sure to be Queen Mary material and she'll do me at 12/1. Queen Mary Stakes Chasing Dreams 12/1
What are your views on the Johnston maiden winner yesterday and the form from his debut? I thought he was beaten by a proper horse first time out and yesterday seemed to show strength to the form.
Chasing Dreams:- https://www.thejockeyclub.co.uk/the...365_british_ebf_maiden_fillies_stakes_plus_10 I thought she was far from fully wound up and still a bit dull in her coat. The runner up is a nice big filly who perhaps looked more the finished article at this stage. Interesting to see how she does next time out.
That Musselburgh maiden was very much a two horse affair, with the third seven lengths off them, which is miles in a 5F race. Bryan Smart sometimes gets decent youngsters and Mark Johnston always seems to get some speedy ones for Hamdan but the problem is that they don't always go on from the early promise. The issue with Alminoor's win is that the runner up Bendy Spirit was beaten 13 lengths when midfield in the Brocklesby and the third Danny Ocean was beaten exactly the same distance when third in his debut race a class 5 maiden at Leicester as he was behind Alminoor and that makes it difficult to rate the performance too highly at the moment. Not sure where Proper Beau goes next but not too many go from Musselburgh to the big time. I wouldn't be in a hurry to underestimate Smart all the same though.
well I was off work with a bad back and thought I'd console myself with a few winners but not a dickie bird and nothing at Wolerhampton to reinforce the pot for tomorrow. At least I can watch Ronaldo and maybe Messi score a couple tonight!!!!
Surprised to read that you were not very taken with her before the race. I thought she looked in mint condition and really could not understand the hood for her first start because she was the ultimate professional. There was a real boxing match when she went through the ring and eventually the boys in blue won the battle and parted with 3/4 million. I believe she is closely related to Harry Angel so plenty of speed in her pedigree. I would imagine she will be given another run before Ascot and it will be interesting to see if the hood is on or off for next start.
I just thought she could have been a bit tighter in terms of her muscular definition and would have liked to see her a bit more forward in her coat. She goes straight to the Queen Mary according to Charlie Appleby and he later had this to say about the filly:- Charlie Appleby has Royal Ascot in mind. “She’s a big-striding filly and so she had to organise herself in the dip and she is a scopey filly. I thought this might come a bit soon, but felt it was right to do it now and hopefully win so we could let her down after. She can enjoy herself now and head straight to the [G2] Queen Mary [S. at Royal Ascot June 19]. She needs a bit of time to furnish and hopefully will get quicker as she gets stronger. She’s far from the finished article.”
Thanks for the update. An odd comment from Appleby though dont you think, "she is far from the finished article" yet they are going straight to Royal Ascot when there is plenty of time to get another run under her belt.
