****ing hell Woods is going to win it.

He has been an absolute tit in the past, a social outcast (fairly), and just about physically crippled.

Winning this though would be arguably the greatest comeback in sport.

I can't stand it. I really dislike the man, and, whilst it is an amazing comeback, the fuss made about it will be out of all recognition. I really want him to **** it up.

Tough titty, this is the romance of sport. Though I agree there is much to dislike about Woods, the sheer bloody mindedness not to call it quits years ago is remarkable in itself. I hope this it it though, I want Nicklaus to keep the majors record.

A bogey at the last will do it for him. And you will hear about it forever.

I think the reaction to his winning will nicely demonstrate the difference between the US attitude to achievement and that of the British. I feel that I will be in the majority in this country being dismayed that such a demonstrably unpleasant character wins out. Americans, by and large, couldn't give a **** and just love a winner.

Now you will criticise me for generalising.

I think you are absolutely right.

Not. I think you possibly don’t have many American friends and acquaintances. And have a problem with over generalization (note spelling).

My brother is a naturalised (note spelling) American citizen and is married to a US Army veteran. I've never lived in the US, but have spent a lot of time there working and on vacation holiday. Does any of that count?

Most generalisations are true (but then that's a generalisation, so it must be false).

Nuturalised? Is that like being neutered?

Can’t tell whether you are being tongue in cheek about generalisations. Wine intake has limited my normally supernatural powers of judgement.

Oops. An unfortunate typo ruins my otherwise killer post. <whistle>

Of course I'm being tongue-in-cheek. All generalisations are false, including this one.

The decency in me dislikes Woods immensely. He's treated fellow humans extremely poorly over the years.
A real knobhead to say the least.

As a person who has had many a bone related surgery, l admire his perseverance and ability to overcome adversity.

From a sporting angle, l say well done to him.
Just hope he's learnt from being an asshole.

It's important to remember that none of us really know Tiger Woods, the man. We know what the press have told us of him and some of that is unpleasant. However I would suggest that if many of us were followed 24/7 by sensationalist, gossip hungry press maybe some unpleasantness might be revealed. What cannot be denied is that he is a sporting masterclass. His determination and will to win is I believe without equal. We should also consider how well thought of he is by his peer group. I've never heard a top pro golfer say anything derogatory about him. Woods made no excuses for his behaviour and has always been an honourable man on the golf course. Let's hope he's learned a little humility during his years in the wilderness.

Contrast his return with that of Smith and Warner to the Australian world cup squad. Two men who in advance planned and carried out an act of deliberate cheating and then stood back while someone else took the flak. Australian cricket has no moral scruples or backbone.

A Kiwi called Steve Williams, Tiger sacked him about 18 months after his ‘shag gate’ scandal. Steve was understandably pissed off after 13 or so years of loyalty (plus a lot of money, estimated $12m) He must have been good, caddied for the great Peter Thompson and Greg Norman before Woods and with Adam Scott after, winning the Masters.

That would be Steve Williams. New Zealands highest paid athlete in his day. Woods sacked him after Williams carried for Adam Scott whilst Woods was injured despite being on a massive retainer. Williams then came out with a load of racist insults. Classy feller, surprised Woods stuck him for as long as he did.

Woods himself said that Williams wasn’t racist.

Ok, I accept Woods would know the truth of it but I also remember Williams ranting on at a family wedding about how he hated Mickleson. Mickelson might be a prat but if you work for a high profile guy like Woods you should keep your trap shut when you're pissed at a family wedding. As I said, no class

Apart from cheating on his wife whats the dislike with woods? Whilst its a big no no i know too many who have cheated on their girlfriends and wives so it would be hypocritical of me to Dislike him just on that basis.

What a great comeback story though
