This one caught my eye too, especially given the ridiculous price on the favourite. It’s weird seeing this race without a David Evans runner, his record in the race is superb

Hello, troops. Nothing for me today but can I ask the membership in all seriousness what they think, from a punting perspective, re the week ahead???

My own take, on this week, is that it’s the most riskiest of the entire campaign. This is because on the Flat (especially at the 'John Craven meet' at HQ) you have countless numbers of animals out for a ‘prep’ for something else, who aren’t fully fit, running for experience, or looking to gently, and I do mean gently, achieve a handicap perch. And in the NH sphere (particularly relevant given the big Cheltenham meeting later in the week) you have huge swathes of the runners who, for want of a better expression, will be over the top and will have had enough for the campaign – characteristics that not even their trainers will be aware of until after the race.

For these reasons I think this week is potentially very dangerous and my own recommendation is that you really should only be wagering when YOU perceive decent and enhanced odds are available – i.e. because of these ‘seasonal pitfalls’ only take odds above what you would normally be looking for – build in these associated dangers when forecasting odds.

In saying all of the above though this is an exciting time of the year, changing of the seasons and all that (Lieutenant Henderson will formally handover the baton to old boy Gosden, tomorrow, watched on by a sneering Minor Royal), and I’m most looking forward to watching and possibly punting on the action at Newmarket and Cheltenham. Albeit fully aware of the risks that these fixtures present.

Old Foxtrot Knight is out today and if he gets a clear run he should go very well. I’m claiming that he’s the reason for Foxtrot racing’s great form. They moved away from
    Flat racing after him!!!

Question for the forum... where’s (W)Olly Stevens these days?

Works for Alan King now. Didn't he used to be an estate agent or am I thinking of someone else?!?

Correct on both accounts, I guess it shows the way the King yard is going!! And I mean into flat racing, not onto rightmove.

Cote D'Azur - He was given a good ride out on his reappearance. If he employs his front running tactics today he could be hard to catch in a very weak looking race. The trip would be my only slight concern.

This is my favourite week of the year. I’m off to Cheltenham for a couple of days.i always feel there’s value to be had at both hqs. Horses that didn’t produce at the festival turn up at tempting prices with trainers also keen to give horses experience of the course without the pressure. You’re also likely to bump into the Nicky who after a bit of hospitality is keen to meet his brethren, or you might bump into pip Hobbs who’s always approachable.its just a lovely meeting without the hordes. Over at Newmarket winners are hard to pick out but the prices once again are tempting. A winner or two at the craven works for me.win there and the values gone for the season. Needless to say I’ll be doing my dough this week, what with the all weather finals on Friday.

    hi fellas!

    hexham,3 40:

well,SAINT FREULE comes with risks attached,as he surely isnt straightforward, but that hasnt hindered him to score twice recently, both wins here, which is an obvious plus.has been hiked up another 12 lbr,but hes in the form of his life at present,so another bold show definitely possible.

not a bad race for the grade, with some in-form contenders, not least prince dundee.but i find it quite interesting to see SQUARE VIVIANI priced up much higher, even though he was only headed at the last before falling,in the race won by prince dundee here.so,as this was a definite step up on form for the hammond horse, maybe,he can build on that today, which would make him a serious e w player..
