I knew it from the first one, it was always going to be an unoriginal uninspiring set of films. The emperor is also back apparently <doh>

very ridiculous but if luke and yoda can talk from beyond the grave it makes far more sense it's Palpatine influencing the dark side.

bar of course the movies specifically said the power was discovered by quijon jin and a light side.power.

but let's not ruin a shorty plot line with timeline continuity

Yep, completely unoriginal. I'm no starwars fan, but the first of the new batch felt like a carbon copy of the original with a few changes

it's actually worse than the star trek which were a disgraceful sky timeline rather than go explore a whole galaxy of ideas in a new story for characters.

this is first movie characters making guest appearances with no logical story progression from the end of 6 onwards. it really is aping first.movies.... with the obvious obvious rey the well.spoken girl on a planet abandoned who mysteriously learns all Jedi powers somehow and the obvious bad guy and a death star etc etc.

At the time film critics said this was to attract the new generation of viewers and the rest would get better. Then the next one was utter **** and now this looks like a hotch potch mess.

The best of the new films and the most original (arguably the best since The Empire Strikes Back) imo is Rogue One.

Don't forget the Skywalker music to get the hairs on the back of the neck rising and a feeling of nostalgia thrown in.

Deffo boycotting the new Star wars film.

Not wasting my money supporting that crap.

I've already not bothered with the Han solo film

I'll probably go because the kids will want to see it, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Really none since the original trilogy have been great. I wouldn't say they were terrible, but not great.

I wonder if the original trilogy were really that good or if it's just nostalgia and we saw them the first time when we were kids.

the first and second were good. or should I say 4 and 5.

for me by 6 Lucas was phoning it in. it was in the end virtually a remake of 4. it tied up loose ends though.

1 and 2, particularly 2 were bloody awful. 1 was childish and jar jar binks was awful in the extreme.

the choice of actors was pish.... neeson was ok, etc but week McGregor was awful, Portman terrible and Christensen wooden.

no 3 was ok as it was darker but the final scenes and battles were poor. a bit of care, just a bit and it could have been good.

I didn't mind 7.. it was a nostalgia play. it was rambling and incoherent and even for a fantasy completely unrealistic but it was what it was.

    8 was truly awful.

rogue 1 was good.. just good.

    solo was very meh.

most of them miss the point and are too long.

This is pretty much spot on <ok>

I did think Rogue One was better than just good. It had a decent plot, was well directed and well made and because all were unknown had a sense of unpredictability about it.

The real test of the original Star Wars films (to prove it's not just about nostalgia) is how much you'd watch them again and whether they've stood the test of time. All 3 of the originals have.

The 3rd of the prequels could have been good. Had a decent Machiavellian plot that came together well, but the overdose on the CGI in the fight scenes and choreographed poor. And the "You've lost Anakin, I have the higher ground" was just nonsensical as an end to it.

Rogue was very good at outset, very very good at conveying the scope of galactic battles etc.

    They still hammed it up.

I can understand wanting a gutter rat type for the rebel agent but to basically get a guy with a Hispanic voice was just American stupidity. The robot thing as well... I'm afraid since the first movies they've over done the driods. The debacle of the driod army was bad enough but... attitude?

Rogue had what i like in a movie of it's type. No happy ending for the characters. It respected the timelines and worked hard to within as just before movie 1.

And you are right about no 3. Cgi ****, and it could have been done so much better. Tbh the stsrt was no better with the killing of dooku

    finished season 7 on GoT.

as a binge it is especially political drama.

littlefingers comeuppance in the binge is brilliant.

the early part of season where all the characters are killed off is great.

    ready for episode 1 tnoight
