2:05 Minella Bobo I think it should be evens the front two and I think Minella Bobo will outstay Ferrobin. I think the market is wrong currently.
It’s been noted over the years that you have a bit of a hard-on for this trainer! Interesting runner in the race is Thenightisyoung who is a 3/4 brother to the useful Doctor Dex. Thenightisyoung was sold as a foal for 20k but went through the ring again as a 3yo and made only 1500 guineas, that’s poor business and one assumes that he isn’t the best looking specimen. The yard don’t have a great win ratio either so all in all he is one to avoid without a paddock inspection.
She just has lovely NH types... Anyway as you are on, what did you think to the Ayr bumper yesterday?
I think I was gutted as I picked the winner the night before and never had a bet. I dont know where Phil Kirby has suddenly emerged from but he is getting some nice horses now and that one yesterday looked decidedly smart. In that Wincanton bumper today the Nicholls horse was beaten by Get In The Queue at Exeter last time when having its second run and today is around the 4/1 mark. MISS KATNISS was making her debut that day was a mere 4.1/2 lengths behind the Nicholls horse and not hard ridden. Miss Katniss is 33/1...! EW value on the same terms?
I think it’s more of a limiting performance for Eritage. I am not a big fan of Nicholls horses on their first couple of runs after coming from France, he seems to let them find their stride and they normally come on for runs. The other Nicholls horse interests me as he’s a half brother to next years good Nicholls chaser Master Tommytucker.
The Prix de Fontainebleau could go a long way towards telling us what will be happening for Godolphin in the early season Classics. With Sheikh Mohammed’s breeding operation now owning half of likely favourite Persian King and only three non-Fabre runners in the field, there may only be negative news to garner. If fit, Paul Cole’s Duke Of Hazzard (rated 105 as a juvenile) may prove a good yardstick to the value of the form. I think Epic Hero probably needs to win quite impressively for the boys in blue to think about stumping up the cash to add him to the 2000 Guineas. The only other way I can see him showing up at HQ is if the Craven meeting does not produce any strong contenders. Whilst his odds have contracted substantially, Zakouski does not have any form to justify his price; and is notably entered in the conditions race on Thursday as well as the Craven. Godolphin have a number of once- or twice-raced individuals entered in the three-year-old contests at HQ but the ones not in pattern company would have to be very impressive to be back a fortnight later. Interesting to see Simon Crisford’s novice winner Imperial Charm in the Prix de la Grotte, but I am more inclined to give ROCQUES another chance to reverse Marcel Boussac form with Lily’s Candle as that Arc day form does not look to be worth a candle with a blanket covering almost the entire field, but that is how French races are run.
Epic Hero is 4/1 with Persian King 4/9 today. It seemed closer listening to Fabre talking about them. One of them needs to win decisively to be a Guineas contender. Just a race to watch. In the Grotte I felt it was really open and went for some potential value with Rouget's Monviette at 7/1, she needs to come forward but could be a better filly this season.
Well you don’t see that happen very often! Interesting story of a US import winning on debut over hurdles.
Could not have asked for better than that from Persian King. He came home 5 lengths clear having made his own running. The French report translated as " A ridiculously facile victory" Whether or not he goes to Newmarket was not really a question bookies had on their minds as they cut him to as low as 7/1 for the 2000 Guineas. As I said earlier in the year there were no odds for the French 2000 Guineas but I did back Persian King for the French Derby at 10/1. Fabre said coming into today that he felt Persian King may get 10F but that Epic Hero was a strict miler. Not a bad effort from Epic Hero in holding second place but this was a one horse race and Persian King looked awesome there.
All the fun taken out of the race at the second hurdle and hard to know what the form is worth! Well done though.
The Skelton horse ploughed through the first too, very odd ride, guess they were trying to settle behind the jolly but he just didn’t jump because of it. The winner will make a lovely staying chaser next season.
stratford,2 40: LERICHI BELLE is my choice here.a bit worrying, that shes still a maiden, but she was well fancied on stable debut for ian williams last time out,and has been dropped another 3 lbr since,so good chance, she ll get that elusive first win today..
well, the slump continues, but i wont give up; wincanton,3 00: another wide-open contest, but i ll take a chance on UN BEAU ROMAN.hes been not at his best for some time, but that is reflected in his dwindling mark, and would have a more than decent shout on his very best form.so,well worth an e w flyer.
Maiden winner Castle Lady landed the Prix De La Grotte. She was the lowest rated runner in the field on 78 with the Racing Post. Had won her only previous race really well and was a cosy winner today but I suspect the form is poor. Monviette looked short of toe, while Lily's Candle was awful. Rocques did best of the Boussac fillies but was only fifth and runner up was Imperial Charm whose official rating of 86 coming here gives the form a very mediocre look.
Have to wonder with the Godolphin horses at the moment. I do not see Persian King crossing the channel and Fabre’s comment about Epic Hero not getting home rules him out of the Guineas. With the boys in blue winning the fillies’ race with Castle Lady, I can see her staying that side of the channel, so will they even have a runner on 4th and 5th of May? Just my pocket-empty analysis, but I think that if they have anything at Guineas weekend, it will run next week.
