Tommy Smith passed away age 74. We'll never forget your contribution to the history of Liverpool. Especially our first European cup win.
Never liked him when he played but that probably was because of how good a player he was in his position and how he kept stopping my team from playing. One of the “old” fashioned hardmen. A real hardman not like a lot of today’s so called hardmen. RIP
Always remember him putting Ossie Ardiles into the stands to put him in his place. Tommy famously said "The ball may get past me, the man may get past me, but the ball and the man will never get past me"
proper player our Tommy...that thumping header in '77 will never be forgotten Manager Bill Shankly once said of him: "Tommy Smith wasn't born, he was quarried". he will be missed...
A lot of the modern players fall down at the brush of a feather. You have to wonder how many would have been in two parts if they had played against him. I used to love players like him. Great shame and no great age these days either. Condolences. to his family.
Never saw Tommy play live, but the players of that era were the true stars of football, the footage I have seen of Tommy was amazing - real blood and thunder, just how i liked it RIP
A true club legend and hardman although in them days the game was much more physical.Gone are the days of Chopper Harris and Norman bites yer legs Hunter and to a lesser extent Billy Bremner..For all the talk of Tommy tackling like a demon he was only sent off once and that was for second yellow for dissent!
seems fitting that in the season that was his swansong the club had the best season they have ever had , and possibly ever will , with him playing a pivotal role culminating in that night in Rome. RIP Tommy .
I was very upset when I received the text with the news of his death. Liverpool through and through and a total Anfield Legend. RIP Tommy la
