I was just wondering the other day, when did we last score a header from a corner? Does anyone know? We've got a fair bit of height in the team but it seems like an age since we slammed home a header from a corner. Maybe it's Yoshida's moment...
Wasnt Stephens goal against Cardiff from a corner? Can’t remember as I was too pissed off we conceded after that
Same, I just pretend we lost two-nil and that Bamba’s goal didn’t really mean anything to the result.
Only 3% of corners result in a goal (and that's classed as within three contacts of the ball). Goals from corners are rare. The roar every time we win a corner is misplaced. Vin
We have the best ball delivery and the worst completion rate! No one savy enough to get on the end and deliver.
JWP still has no assist this season, he has one of the highest number of deliveries into the area, about 150 in total and yet no end result from all those corners
Hoping saints can get a win! Going to be my last game I can attend this season as I’m due to have surgery so come on boys!
It's why I love to see short corners. Watch what the situation is a few seconds after most corners: The ball's with a defender from the attacking side with the people in front of him in disarray, some offside, some on, all with their backs to the goal moving away from it. Short corners are a crucial and, in my opinion, much underutilised tactic. Vin
I think the interesting thing about the Burnley v Cardiff game is that if there is an away win, it is not too much of a disaster as it will keep Burnley in touching distance even if we lose. The way the fixtures are panning out, it is possible that we could drop in to the relegation zone next weekend but I think it is highly unlikely. Either way, I would expect us to pull clear as the relegation rivals have more difficult teams. To be honest, I am expecting nothing flashy tomorrow and just want a professional attempt to get the job done.
This stat looks extremely light and I don't believe it. There are some higher figures in this exercise:- https://sports.stackexchange.com/qu...of-football-goals-originate-from-corner-kicks I think this average form 2012/13 of around 14% is more likely even if the criteria you use will obviously vary the percentage. Three touches is a fair judgement, I think though. The short corner factor is pretty obvious because the ball is not travelling so far as if directed to the back post and has less chance of being intercepted. Seems like something from the Charles Hughes coaching book but I think that football has a lot to do with mathematics anyway - even more so that cricket.
The best corner tactic is to turn around and kick it out for a throw to the other team 1 yard from the corner flag.
Avoiding defeat would be good(it so often is) as it will keep Cardiff at arms length no matter what happens in their game. This is definitely the toughest of our remaining fixtures
There's been a couple of goals from his corners, just his deliveries tend to ping around inside the box so he doesn't always get the assist from them. Those stats taking the number of goals from a corners as a percentage of the number of goals, not the number of corners. We've apparently taken about 150 corners. 3% of that would be about 5 goals from corners this season. We've scored 36 goals this season. and, magically, 5 is almost exactly 14% of 36. Statistics, eh.
