Just read this article on NUFCBLOG.com http://www.nufcblog.com/2011/09/11/coloccini-and-gutierrez-could-be-moved-out-next-summer/

Would you guys agree that sadly being 30 years of age next summer and a year left on a 70-80k per week contract its only inevitable that we'll see our curly haired colossus of a captain moved on?

In my 19 years supporting the club the previous greatest cenre half in my eyes was Woodgate but Coloccini's surpassed him now and he's played alot more games too.

I think if he was offered a new contract then Ashley would only offer a reduced wage and as we know not many modern day footballers are willing to take pay cuts, but then again would there be any other clubs willing to take Colo on at his current wage?

    Thoughts...

Unless Colo takes accepts a 2 year extention on £50k/week he'll get shipped out unfortunately

    Same goes for Jonas

Collo has said that he loves the club, and at 30/31, not many other clubs will come knocking. I think if he's offered a new contract with reduced wgaes, he'll take it.

Why would he be made captain if the club know he's going to leave in a year or two's time?

It's Stevie Taylor I'd be more worried about losing, young, talented and with possible international potential.

Nolan was made captain last season and we know how that ended up, however I think the quality of the team would be worse off without Colo than it is Nolan.

And i think Saylors complimented by Colo's technique and reading of the game, whilst Sayls is the big brave destroyer willing to put his body on the line and he's good at it and getting better. Hopefully we can keep both fit and contracted too the club.

He is a fans favourite, the club knows that so making him captain would keep supporters quiet on the Colo situation for awhile?
    Seems like it to me.

It would be madness but I can't see him getting the security he will want. Because of his and Jonas age I think they'll be keen to sell as they won't command much of a fee from there on in. It'll be two years tops on a reduced wage if there is a contract offer. That is the beginning of the end in football. Likelihood is they'll be offered what they want elsewhere and move. I like the youth policy but they just have to make sure the right balance is struck for the football side to progress.

Yeah I thought that too. But it did get me thinking whether I could see Colo still being here in a season or two and if others could see it too

probably depends on whether he'll take a paycut. 50k/pw - 2 years with an option on a 3rd perhaps?

    needless speculation though
