Yer fair point but none of the ones u mentioned would go out on loan and none are free transfers either
A player in the mould of Ecclestone would be great. Although as said on here previously, he won't make a return. I think pace is the biggest attribute in this league, especially off the bench.
You are right, SirJohn. Pace is so important in this league. Our bench is not exciting enough. I would love to see a couple of the youngsters there - ready to come on and prove a point. But the five subs rule is too restrictive and CP will always go with the experienced heads.
Dwight Yorke... It's a worry for me that in spite of all our spending we have neglected to bring in adequate cover for BWP. It's obvious for one reason or another that the gaffer isn't going to pick Benson. Maybe the ink is drying on a contract that'll take him out of the club on loan somewhere, possibly with the view to a permanent move when the window opens. I dunno⦠Itâ a strange one thatâs for sureâ¦!! Either way we need to get a forward of BWPâs ilk in and sharpish. Why we've waited for the window to shut before doing so is beyond me. We are now only able to select from the loan and free agent markets which has minimised our options somewhat. I have everything I am able to cross firmly crossed that BWP doesnât get injuredâ¦!!
I cant stand Acworth but i agree we need another forward to team up with BWP. hayes, Mule, Benson is not the answer.
I am surprised that Rory Fallon has found himself without a club. He is a big target-man, I know, but not bad to have when playing hoof-ball against seven-foot defenders.
I agree that he could be worth a look Ponders... Although, having played five games after signing for Yeovil on a one month deal (according to wiki), they didnât waste much time in bombing him out of it. Maybe heâs not al that after allâ¦
Yeah, I was surprised they bombed him out. Perhaps he was not suited to Skiverton's ideal of passing football? But every team needs a big target-man, don't they?
Do you know what Ponders, I'm not so sure they do... Don't get me wrong; at the start of the season I was banging the drum big time for us to sign a big target man to afford us a plan B so to speak. However, having watched us numerous times since it’s abundantly clear to me that we do not have to go down that route. The big danger with having a lump up top is that the players behind him all to often take the easy way out by going long more than they should… why… Because they’re passing the buck, and it’s easy to do so. Thumping the ball the length of the field requires a lot less skill than it does to look for a more constructive way out of trouble. Andy Carroll is a classic case in point at Liverpool. Although he’s a big old unit his game is not all about receiving the ball in the air with his back to goal. However, this is all he has had in terms of supply whenever he has played thus far. No surprise we’ve not seen the best of him and he’s picking splinters out of his a**e on the Liverpool bench. We have a squad full of players with enough quality to play progressive passing football. As we’ve seen in the majority of our performances so far. With the football we’ve been playing it’s easy to forget that this talented group of players are still getting to know each other. I’m excited to see what they’re capable of doing ten games on from now…!!
Good points, Franco. Granted, Plan-B hoofball is not to be desired. Against Wednesday, we played it despite having no real aerial threat. It was a waste. We should have carried on probing patiently like we did yesterday. I forgot that we signed the young lad from Darlington. Perhaps he can do a job if called upon, eh?
Exactly... I was pleased to see that we maintained our composure and remained patient in our pursuit for the three points yesterday. The playing squad appear to be quick on the uptake, who are capable of seeing where theyâve gone wrong in the past and learning from these mistakes. Me thinks this could be our year fellâ¦
How about Tommy Wright - ex Darlo released by Aberdeen. Article on Sky Sports http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_7171678,00.html
Mr Torres was on the bench for Chelsea, I'm sure he'd love to join us on loan for the season. Especially, if we tell him we've signed his compatriot Alonso to provide the ammunition Back in the real world, I was puzzled by the Euell signing, I wasn't sure what his role was, as he hasn't been a goalscoring striker for years. If Powell had signed a pacier striker instead of him, we would have a better impact bench, as Euell doesn't look like a game changer on current form.
When Euell gets his chance I think he'll take it. Got his goal in his only start VS Reading and looks easy in possession. A good like for like replacement for Hayes.
