After 7 straight wins Rovers got beat by Oldham, last night - I suppose it had to happen. I have to say this has been an exceptional season for TRFC, considering the time we've spent out of the league; it almost reignites my interest in footy ( almost ). On to the important stuff. I can't ignore Dartford Warbler in the 3.05 at Market Rasen. At Southwell, 4.25, Royal Cosmic likes it there and is dropping in grade, so is tempting. Wincanton could be a favourites day for every race - let's see. By the way, the rain has been on for a while on this side of the Mersey, so the likelihood is Aintree is also getting a soaking. Good Luck if you're playing.
afternoon, folks! market rasen,3 05: DARTFORD WARBLER isnt getting any younger, but he has a pretty good record here, and is on a good mark at present,so definite chance today.. wincanton,3 15: the win at the cheltenham festival 3 years ago is becoming a very distant sight now for SOLAR IMPULSE,true, but he didnt run too badly last time out on his first start for ian williams, and his mark has been in free fall since that win at prestbury park.also has his last run in 5th been well advertised by the first two,so decent shout..
market rasen,4 05: EARLOFTHECOTSWOLDS has been running very consistently all season so far,and though he has gone up a lot since, including 4 lbr for his last second,he has quite a progressive profile,so there might be even more in the locker..
The 5.00 Leopardstown where Amedeo Modigliani looked a bad favourite in the early betting. He ran behind Gustav Klimt at 2YO before winning a modest enough affair easily next time. That made him one of the leading lights in the Derby betting but the horse met with a setback and never raced at three. I thought his comeback effort was disappointing, not so much that he was beaten but a very moderate looking horse also finished ahead of him in second place. Of course Aidan's are never fully wound up first time out, sometimes to the extent that it is looked on by some as training in public but despte taking that into account it is hard to fancy him dropping down in trip, as he had looked a strong stayer when winning on heavy at long odds on. His official rating is 96 and he needs more than that to win this race. Verbal Dexterity is now favourite but he's short as well. Decent at two but no match for Saxon Warrior in the Racing Post Trophy, he has form with some strong horses but was beaten a long way in the Group 1's he was in last season. Stable is going well and this is his easiest assignment in a long time. Imaging started last season well but was a shade exposed as short of top company afterwards. A decent each-way option at 9/2 but a bit tight now at 7/2. I felt Verbal Dexterity has a great chance in this company and has a shade of class. A tough season likely awaits if he can't win this. Verbal Dexterity 2/1 was my pick.
Nice pick Grade One. I really thought Verbal Dexterity had that slight class edge but he ran like a handicapper today. Will be hard to place for Bolger now. Imaging did it well enough and he'll perhaps win some group three races this season. More will probably be needed for anything higher. They couldn't give Amedeo Modigliani away in the betting and hard to say what's next for him. Maybe they will work towards a Royal Ascot Handicap with him, as he doesn't seem good enough for better races and his Handicap mark is unlikely to change much from 96, which is quality Handicap race territory. Interestingly the first 5 home pretty much ran to their official ratings on Racing Post figures for tonight's race. The glaring exception was Verbal Dexterity, who was given as running 12 lbs below his official rating and that has to go down as disappointing. Some interesting races coming up in Ireland this weekend with the Guineas Trials and the Ballysax. Of course O'Brien has a squiliion entries to choose from. Ten Sovereigns and Magna Grecia are the bigger names we may see.
