Willie McKay bears a lot of responsibility: Nantes used him as an intermediary to find a club for Sala as his contract was running down even though McKay wasn't Sala's agent (or IIRC allowed to practise as an agent in the UK), he got in Warnock's shell-like to arrange a deal, and he suggested using a private flight back to Nantes - although on that last one Cardiff could have easily put their foot down and booked him a flight on Easyjet or whatever

I've been watching a baseball movie called Major League, where the team screws up (familiar?) then comes back and is successful. Well, starting this weekend, let's see our team come back starting on Sunday.
With some teams close by with seemingly easy fixtures til the end of the season,we need to pick it up....and quick!

    Solskjaer gets the gig.

Not surprising really just a peculiar time to announce it. An end of season collapse would make this look like a terrible decision. Wait until the end of the season and it's a win-win.

I reckon if anything it’s to tie down some players on long term contracts as they all love Ole and Madrid are circling like vultures for the likes of Rashford

Plus when Poch said he wanted to cry when the Stadium opened that kind of sealed the deal and United just settled for their 2nd choice

    We will.

But in order to do that we have to "move through the gears" by
demolishing lesser opposition first. You have my sympathies.

Ole is not proven. He's had rather a lot of luck so far. But don't expect a proper debate in the media between "we've got our ManU back" and of course the general feeling of entitlement. A good appointment from the point of view of other teams - providing he's allowed to fail by the refs etc.

Personally I think Mike Phelan had a lot to do with Fergie's success and OGS has him there as well. A sort of Clough/Taylor relationship.

I think Solky had a lot of help with his start. So many "easy pickings" but then, anything was better than the moron as far as the United players were concerned.

United players have always been allowed to commit GBH and never concede a penalty, but since Ole came in they have certainly enjoyed more `benefit of doubt` from the officials, I think a lot of them had become tired of Jose and his antics, none of them have any axes to grind with Ole, which can sway decisions in their favour.

By 'lesser', you refer to the team currently top of the heap. I get it <ok>

Won’t last a season. At some point it’s going to go sour and then watch it crumble.

Nice bloke and I wish all him the best but no way is he the man to bring the title back to Man Utd.

You both could be right, but to be honest, I think the move does make sense. What else were they supposed to do?

They tried going for a manager, with a good reputation (at the time) and was doing well on a meagre budget, at the behest of SAF in David Moyes. But he took them from league winners to 7th place. Lasted all of 10 months in charge.

Then they went for a multiple-league and European cup winner Louis van Gaal. That didn't work out either.

So they then went for the big name - Jose Mourinho. Whilst he had a shocking end to his Chelsea tenure and his reputation was somewhat dwindling, he'd just won the league the season before he was dismissed at Chelsea. Also, his name was still synonymous with winning trophies. Surely, this one couldn't go wrong....but it did.

Every option they have exercised thus far hasn't paid off. They tried going for SAF's recommendation - it flopped. They tried going for the big names, with trophy-laden careers, and this wasn't good enough, either.

Surely it makes sense to bring someone in who understands the fabric of the club, connects with the fans and knows what it means to be at Manchester United?

You have to remember they've not just signed OGS, but Mike Phelan was signed as assistant manager too, and he was very popular/well-respected at the club.
So it's the whole set-up that has changed and so far, they are reaping the rewards.

That was an own goal in terms of RCLing, you appear to be having a mere today. Don't give up, have another go. Everyone makes the odd mistake.
