Day 11 of the March basho brought the hopes of a few men crashing to the ground. Some will be demoted and another's hopes for promotion hit a bump in the road. And one of the two grand masters put in a stunning performance.
Day 12 action kicks off with the little rooster Enho who's stepped up from the lower ranks to compete against the senior divisions. Here he has to concede a massive 10 stone 5 to Toyonoshima. And one of my favourite fighters wins the last.
Day 13 of 15 of the March Basho. The Ozeki (second highest rank) Goeido has been smashing opposition, making them look second rate. Today he fought the mighty Yokozuna Hakuho in the final bout of the day. Non English commentary, but the info at the bottom of the screen is gold.
Day 14 of the March Basho. It's now a two way race between the pair of *****lians, Yokozuna Hakuho (13-0) and the 500 pound Ichinojo (12-1). The second last bout of the day between Hakuho and Takayasu was an exciting, in your face affair.
There was a massively important bout in the final day of the March basho. A Georgian named Tochinoshin who us ranked at Ozeki, just one rung below Yokozuna, had to win to retain his lofty status. As he's carrying a leg injury, he's been battling to stay afloat and today it all came down to his final bout. He had to win. His opponent, a rising young star called Takakeisho had been denied a promotion to Ozeki last tournament, even after qualifying. This has caused a real stink in the media. Today Takakeisho met Tochinoshin, the man facing demotion. Fans wanted the latter to survive, but also wanted the former promoted. Sadly, one had to lose out. Tochinoshin is on the left, Takaeisho the right.
Even as a rabid and avid supporter of FC Bayern Munchen I don't believe it: Serge Gnabry starts and Marco Reus on the bench!
Amazing first half from die Mannschaft Kenny - where have they dragged that from? Dutch will be puking. Nice interlude between Cyc’s “Lard boys”
I refuse to believe that Low has managed to change the formation, the style of play plus the make up of the squad in just a few months. I suspect it says more about the supposed resurgence in The Netherlands than an immediate improvement; remember 'we' were two up with five minutes to play against the Dutch in the other 'Euro' tournament towards the end of 2018. I see that my 'home' team were victorious in this afternoon's clash of the giants!
I wonder what Thomas “how dare you drop me from the national team” Müller is tweeting this evening? Oops 1-2
