    Why would he pick JWP? He plays for a team that is 16th in the league. Let's cut him some slack shall we? After all, he's got England to a first World Cup semi final since 1990 and we're in the Nations League semi final. It's the first qualifying game and Czech Republic are the highest ranked team England will play in the group. I have no problem with the team he's put out tonight.

    Because he’s been the highest scoring English midfielder this year?

    I’m not really slagging off Gareth, it’s because JWP clearly deserved selection over Delph, who has hardly played for months, but only got picked because of injury. I hope James gets some minutes in at least one of these games!

    Yeah that was strange. But I do think Southgate rates JWP. He was captain of the U21's under him.
