While I am interested that the original "listing" has been proven to be total crap, you do raise an important point. We've raised this issue before about whether one's sporting/musical/acting/writing etc idols need to be above reproach. Had JWP voted Leave it would not have detracted from one of his free kicks. But yes I am glad he didn't!
Why? I wouldn't care if he voted remain...because it's a democracy and everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
It would be interesting to know how footballers would vote, especially those from the championship who could maybe see being out of the EU as a way to restrict the importation of second string European footballers, to the premier league, opening up the door for them to step up, as it used to be in the past.
Yes, of course they are. That's not the point I'm making. We would generally prefer it if our heroes were in tune with us on things that matter. Where their opinion differs to mine, I have no issue if it belongs in the mainstream of thought. I have many close friends who vote Tory, voted Leave and - heaven forbid - support Liverpool. However, we all carry a residual belief that someone who disagrees with us on politics, music or football team allegiance is actually very sadly mistaken. I know, e.g., my Tory voting friends are waiting for me to see the folly of my ways just as Christian ones await my Damascene conversion. It all adds to the spice of life, as far as I'm concerned and that's fine. I'd only think less of one of my heroes if they said or did something repungnant. Thus my admiration for Eric Clapton was greatly reduced by his drunken racist rant in the 1970's. To say that I am pleased that JWP is in line with me on Brexit is a throwaway remark. Miss a penalty against Liverpool and I'll be cursing whatever his political leanings!
Oh I'd love to do Boris the Spaffer a full Razor followed by a Mark Dennis crunch on the Mogglodyte. Several others deserving a Souness sandwich. Jab
I was joking with my post btw. I don't care if Prowse votes join pompey. But yeah pretty weird of him to make it all up
Well, seeing as he would LEAVE every bloody cross that came into the box for someone else to deal with, we'll stick him on the LEAVE team.
people vote to leave or remain according to what benefits them and their families, I would have thought that leaving and thus making it harder for foreign players coming to England would very much benefit young English players
Doubt it. Lowering the quality of the league would just lower the revenue available to grassroots football. Even if its not shared out well.
The FA does the investment. Its not hypothetical. While the share ratio isnt good, the ratio for our kids wont be improve by making the incoming money smaller.
I find it really sad the way both remainers and brexiteers think they can judge people by how they voted. People have many varied reasons for why they voted as they did, and most are legitimate. It is legitimate to vote remain because you value the benefits of EU integration. This does not mean hou are not a racist. It is legitimate to vote leave because you are worried about immigration levels. This does not mean you a racist. When did our society become so incapable of engaging with differing viewpoints that even the hint of a voting pattern on a made up list by some journalist has us criticising young people as racist? Sad.
Agreed... A country with supposed freedom of speech... and a mind that chooses what they feel is a long standing view point to the betterment of the future of this country.. But anyone that disagrees is instantly racist.. why I never ever get into politics.. absolute bollox.
I totally agree. As I have indicated earlier, I am a passionate remainer with friends who voted to leave for reasons I can wholly respect. The real problem, as you indicate, is the way that "political debate" has become so debased. However, help is at hand! The politics thread on here is an example of proper discourse where the arch-Leaver Imps earns the respect of those of us who disagree with him because he enters into a debate based on evidence rather than scream "We voted to Leave, Get on with it." This thread makes me proud to be a Saints fan. Civilised exchanges between people of different views. Stand aside, St Theresa. Let St Mary's sort it!
