I know mate but that says even more about the lad, he never gave it a chance under KK Its a no for me and I'd expect KK to think the same
Not a chance, don't think he'll ever play that way again - he's lost a few yards of pace, good defenders now know how to play him, and team mates don't seem to like him... Why take a backwards step?
Pretty knocked the nail on the head there. Carra even rated it as one of the top 5 Liverpool transfers selling Torres.
@ Lucas that was class that when Carra siad that with a cheeky smirk @ Noblex he was getting more support under KK's tactics and seemed to be getting back into it (the team was far more attacking). But I know what you're saying. Makes my blood boil when I think back to him wandering around at Anfield in our Red shirt sulking
Now let me be honest here, I still like Torres as a person, and I thank him for moving on when he did, he once again did the best for Liverpool, and I will never call him Judas. I think he was the most loyal when he went to the chavs. So if I met him in the street, I'd give him a big hug. But let us never, ever talk about bringing him back. That is just stupid talk.
Not defending the timing of his transfer request, but he'd had 2 years of broken promises and was looking like he wouldn't even be competing in any sort of European football next season, let alone the champions league. He also had 6 months of Roy Hodgson telling the defenders to hoof it up to the isolated Torres, who was getting battered and bruised by opposition centre halves trying to fight for a lost cause. At the same time doubts were being raised as to whether he still had the ability to be the world beater he was 2 years ago, and whether he was worthy of a place in the Spanish team. Maybe he could've given King Kenny six months, but what if things had gotten worse with his form and injuries and no champions league club would want him?
In 5 games he scored 3 goals, and hit the post vs Everton plus scored a legitimate goal against Fulham that was wrongly called offside. That was including a game at Old Trafford in which we were down to 10 for most of the afternoon, so its not a bad total at all really, all things considered.
I understood his predicament, broken promises etc. But the way he went about things and then shouting his mouth off about us, we had broken promises too under the old regeime. But I will never ever accept someone/player to think its okay to pull our Red shirt on and not give his all.
Well in my opinion he was no worse than Gerrard in some games in Benitez' last season, he was also strolling about for some games in which it was obvious he was unhappy, and the face he pulled when Torres got subbed was, in my opinion, undermining the manager at the time. Its near enough impossible for people to put 100% into every game when they're disillusioned with the managment of the club, which Torres was under Roy Hodgson, just like Gerrard was under Benitez.
Yeah I understand not everyone can do 100% all the time but when it comes to sulking on the pitch? Under Rafa he wasnt always disillusioned, but yeah I remember his face at that particular substitute I dont think we can question Gerrards commitment to the cause where as we definitely can with Torres. Gerrard may have disagreed with some of Rafas decisions but at the end of the day (and yeah it is because he is a local boy and fan) he always wants whats best for LFC where as Torres................though he did get us 50 mill
Remember that Reina was considering leaving at that point in January aswell. Roy Hodgson was polluting the club to the point star players were having to consider leaving.
I know mate, that period under Hodgson sends shivers down my spine. At the end of the day Reina has given us, under KK and new owners a chance which Torres didnt under KK. He gave us a chance in the Summer by not leaving I suppose but he never gave Kenny's set up a chance mate
I can forgive him for leaving in January, after he stayed when Cancer and AIDS still owned us. At least he, and we, knew that all of the transfer money would go towards replacements, not towards paying down the debt the Yanks had accumlated at the club.
I'm not too sure if we'd even score more goals with him back than without him. Yes, he was a better finisher than anyone we have in the squad today, but we now have far more suppliers than during his day who can get the ball to anyone to put in. Torres is gone forever in my mind, and not out of any malicious feeling towards him, but from the fact that I'd like to see how Kenny's team will develop. As a team, we're already close to the best Benitez side (2 seasons ago). Let's see what we'll be like in 2 seasons from now.
This is an interesting debate. There is a part of me that would love to see Torres smashing them in for us again, even more so than Owen. I used to love his song, and he spearheaded a period where we were realy good and I have fond memories. However! He has ruined those memories of him, and to some extent my memories of us from 06-09. For that I will never forgive him, nor for what he said about our club, nor for his performances prior to the transfer, nor for who he chose to move to, nor when he chose to leave- especialy considering we were in dire straights. Our players despise him and so do I. Let him rot all the way back to Spain - don't give him the option of crawling back which would make us look pathetic. He has made his bed. Don't get me started on Owen!
