One of the few things that I could actually give credit to Assem Allam with doing correctly was his allowance of letting SB manage the footballing side of things in the beginning. This worked well until his illness and Ehab came in a took over. Like with Oldham, not letting the manager get on with his job without interference from owners is IMO a cardinal sin.
As hard as it is to believe there are worse, more useless owners than ours. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...s-Oldham-Athletic-manager-SPECIAL-REPORT.html
You have such forum knowledge – almost like the forum historian and always a pleasure to read. In time, it should be you who commits this all to print and definitely write the book. Provisional title: “Not a striker’s brown-pipe: a story of Roo’s down under”
I think in some ways our owners are far from useless. They have cost cutting measures and lean thinking backed up with proper accountants and lawyers: don't mess with them. Compare that to Martin Fish, David Lloyd. Hinchliffe/Buchanan and even the Oystons....all lightweights in comparison to the Allams ability to do business. What is so frustrating is the Allams is that they get obsessed by stupid irrelevances, petty disputes, the need to be seen to be in control, the need to antagonise opponents, the attempts to bully people who they don't like, they have no sense of what is a proportionate and appropriate response, their obsession with reinventing Hull City so that is their version of Hull City, their disdain for our club's story before they bought it, their indifference to the opinions and thoughts of people who have followed the club for decades, investing countless hours and pounds following an underachieving club, their lack of remorse or humility about their toxic legacy and the sorrow they have caused so many. It could all so easily have been unavoided, all so easily patched up, reversed, changed by an internal memo or one press release. But no.
True. Though Fish was only acting on Christopher Needler's orders. Meet him a few times and his father must have been spinning at the thought of his odious offspring. A big Leeds fan who goes in my local gets into arguments with other fans of TWS about Bates and makes a good case for him doing a good job for Leeds. All a matter of perspective. As others have said previously, the Allams could so easily have been revered owners.
