Had the pleasure of going to a John Hartson talk in last night at Shotley Bridge Cricket club. He had a few tales to tell and openly stated that Redknapp is totally bent. I complimented him on his frank assessment of England on the telly the other night and he said that he was told not to be so cutting but told the TV people but he told them he'll always say what he wanted and they can f**k off if they don't like it.

He had a fair few tales about his time at Celtic and clearly has a lot of affection for the hoops (although he once failed a medical at Rangers would you believe!)

He talked about his cancer battle too which moved quite a few people.

All in all it made me think that the real big men of the game don't seem to be there anymore as money breeds a different type of footballer these days.

He is a top bloke who has been through the ringer yet still has a massive passion for the game.

Mr Hartson sir, I salute you.

He was a bit wild in his younger days (check out his head kick on Berkavic on youtube) but by the time he arrived at Celtic he had matured and I actually believe we got the very best of the big man. It was his goals and general all round forward play that got us to the UEFA Cup final. Who could forget his strike against Liverpool at Anfield?

It was just a pity he got injured and missed the final.

And, trust me, every Celtic fan knows very well he 'failed' the medical at Rangers. Their loss, out gain.

    Father or Son? ha ha

I was at a night out, and Tommy Smith the ex Liverpool Captain was talking, i had just read "Cloughie" and asked him his memories of him...... i wish i hadn't asked. Turns out he hated him. He didn't have a good word to say about him, and said that he was shagging Peter Taylor, his assistant..... wow.

Some of the nights can be fun and you can hear all sorts. Also was at a night out that Frank McAvennie was talking at....he's mental!

He's had personal private problems in the past as we all have but is a genuine top bloke, never had the pleasure myself but know a few people who are close to the big man and I hear nothing but good things about his character.
