Who knows! I think Southgate still has his favourites. I'd have picked JWP in this squad, I think he deserves it, but I am bias.
So useing Southgates logic of JWP just getting in saints first team had a bearing on selection.....John Stones certainly doesn’t start many games, Delph doesn’t also and Ali has just returned from injury (1 game) ???
It’s our gain totally, but gutted for the lad, playing really well and some average Joe from a bigger team gets ahead of him because they play for city, Chelsea, spurs etc.
Nicked this off Twitter.... Ruben Loftus-Cheek vs Fabian Delph vs James Ward-Prowse since Boxing Day! RLC: 7 Games, 157 mins, 0 goals FD: 1 Game, 10 mins, 0 goals JWP: 11 Games, 990 mins, 6 goals Guess who got in the #England squad? #SaintsFC
Seems a bit of a bullshit reason for not picking him when you look at that. Im sure if he played for any of the "big six teams" he would be in that squad
Was a little worried about him going off with England for a few days, so when I heard the news I thought I'd be pleased. But in actual fact I'm really annoyed. If Fabian Delph is the answer, may I inquire to what was the question?
I do kind of get it.....though disappointed for James. He is in a hot spell, but that has to be more prolonged to replace someone who has played for England seniors. And we don't want JWP injured.
Delph has been on phenomenal form since Christmas. He hasn't had any more than 10 bad minutes all in!
What if Southgate thinks Delph is a better player than ward-prowse? He might well change his mind if this form continues for JWP - but until recently he has been pretty ****.
Up there with if he played for England and some twat got in his ear about being too good for Southampton....
