Just come across this and it's a must listen for Bowie fans and an interesting one even if you are not. It's a moving dramatized account of the great man in the recording studio while making his final album, Blackstar that was broadcast on the Beeb back in January of last year... Here is the BBC page... https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3cswcd7
Here's a song by Kiwi superstar Dave Dobbyn. I like how NZ nationalists jumped on this as an anthem for Kiwi patriots without realising it was written in response to racists protesting about immigration and the song is actually welcoming refugees and immigrants to their new home in NZ.
In the absence of any games involving our team for the next two and a half weeks, I was pondering (whilst in the car “zooming” (blue ink alert) along the M27 earlier) if anyone would be interested in putting up here there favourite first line (or first verse) of a song? I’ve got a couple ..... Think these 2 are just perfect starts lyrically, but would be interested to see what else you guys can come up with
Arrrggghhhhh!!! “There” for “their” alert! Sorry, Fran (and other “proper English” proponents) .....I didn’t look at it and only just realised!
Love this first verse (for obvious reasons!)... "Here, sitting in my room, with The Replacements and Husker Du, like a rebel without a clue And the Beatles and the Stones get to hang out with Ramones And the Pistols shunning fame, as they sing the old refrain As they always will again, like 29 x the pain"
Good idea Dave I bought a toothbrush, some toothpaste A flannel for my face Pajamas, a hairbrush New shoes and a case I said to my reflection "Let's get out of this place"
All the leaves are brown (all the leaves are brown) And the sky is grey (and the sky is grey) I've been for a walk (I've been for a walk) On a winter's day (on a winter's day) I'd be safe and warm (I'd be safe and warm) If I was in L.A. (if I was in L.A.)
All night long, I loved her Morning came too soon, I knew she'd be gone by the afternoon I said "Please don't go!" Still she said goodbye
Probably not the greatest opening lyrics (or vocals) but definately one of my favourite opening tunes. I always flirt with death I could kill, but I don't care about it I can face your threats And stand up straight and tall and shout about it
Possibly one of my all time favourite intros to that song, and then Peter Perrett starts singing at 49 seconds and ruins the whole song for me because I can't stand his voice
Please allow me to introduce myself / I'm a man of wealth and taste Stones, of course - Sympathy for the Devil You used to get it in your fishnets, now you only get it in your night dress
Hey, hey mama said the way you move Gon' make you sweat, gon' make you groove Ah ah child way ya shake that thing Gon' make you burn, gon' make you sting Hey, hey baby when you walk that way Watch your honey drip, I can't keep away
