I really don't like Manchester United or their fans (and never have) but they have quite a few likeable players now and I find it hard to hate Ole. I'd rather they won it than Liverpool. I'm also glad they beat PSG. Really can't stand them and what they stand for. They'll never actually win the major honours at continental level, or even get consistently close to them, until they start to have a distinct philosophy and build for the long-term and create a cohesive team unit, rather than chucking together some stars and then a couple of superstars at the top end of the pitch. I've heard some stories about what PSG was like behind the scenes a couple of seasons ago and it does not surprise me one bit that they continue to fail when it truly matters.
Barcelona have far more plastic fans than Man Utd these days. Try visiting Asia and you'll know what I'm on about.
Indeed. A Spanish friend of mine - while watching El Classico with Spanish Barcelona fans, none of which came from the city - was marveling at the 'massive' crowds we have In the lower leagues in England, even compared to La Liga. Domestically too Barca (and Real) have way more plasticos than United.
At least Barcelona have class!!! And the best player in the world, so I am quite surprised the glory hunters in the Home Counties don´t support FC Barcelona.
If SFC are relegated, you will soon discover how many "Plastic Saints" exist. It´s a bit like having a favourite pub!! If that same pub´s range of drinks is indifferent, the food bland and the service poor then one seeks an alternative venue. Same with football. I just hope Ralph is bringing back the sexiness to SFC´s football that disappeared out the window with the three previous managers/coaches.
The head has cleared this morning. A well done to Manchester United who I believe Will win this season´s CL trophy as they are playing without the pressure of winning something. Often happens.
Name and shame. But if you are referring to my dalliance with Spurs back in 1961 then you are a cad, sir. It was all about sex with one of their fans!
For those who think var will stop bias, be sure to tell me when var gives one of those last night for a small team at Anfield / OT.
Agreed, it looks like it's actually just going to make things worse. That and the Porto game just after- neither were pens IMO
Yeah, so many problems. Morata's goal (archers post) shows that its still susceptible to human error. And the thing that scares me the most about it, is a perfectly good goal can be ruled out for an incident occurring elsewhere which has no impact on the end result. A perceived push or trip that happens 20 seconds before the goal, that only the monitor guy see's. These early stages really are highlighting the coming problems with VAR.
All the ex players were saying never a pen on BT Sport, then the ref who has probably never kicked a ball in his life said definite pen. Pretty standard. His argument was that he had loads of time to move his arm (lol), his back was towards the ball so had no idea where the ball was going to strike him and that he made himself bigger by flailing his arm out (lol). The only one he may have a point on is turning his back, but if you dive to block a shot head on your arms fly above your head naturally anyway so makes no difference. The deliberately making yourself bigger is bollocks as is saying he had loads of time to get his arm out of the way and just smacks of people not having a ****ing clue about playing football at any level let alone the very top . They said that there was some king of refs who was advising them and the teams on what they would/wouldn't be giving and anything with handball where he is making his body bigger will be given. There is literally no way you can dive to block a shot without your arms flailing about in a natural way, so guess they are just saying you can't dive in to block shots anymore.
The panel were also saying that VAR officials should be advised by actual football players as to the physical realities of what happens in games, so that the fantasies of referees who have never played shouldn’t dominate decisions. The BT pet ref Peter Walton doesn’t seem to have ever watched a real football match, let alone taken part in one.
The problem with Peter Walton is, he's the biggest member of the ref's union. He is more interested in protecting them, rather than applying common sense to situations/decisions. I find him intolerable.......on a good day.
Ah **** it - I'd have given the penalty just to wind up that little prick Neymar. His reaction was priceless. The other side of the coin - when we didnt have VAR - look at Lampards goal -v- Germany...
Well apart from that technicality. Ok, maybe not that one but Bertrand would likely have been awarded one Saturday by VAR.
