Looks a very good player, based on that 25 min cameo yesterday It’s nice to see a player who always wants the ball, both at set plays and in open play. He’s got plenty of tricks and has a skill level that could unlock a lot of defences at this level. If he stays fit along with Lyle Taylor, scoring goals in League One will not be a problem for us this season. A possible master stroke by Lee Bowyer in the transfter market.
I thought he played well, looked bright, has potential. There will always be some flak aimed at any player who comes to Charlton from Palace or Millwall, but personally I'm not bothered about that. Not interested really what shirt a player has worn in the past, and not interested in where he goes or what he does after he leaves SE7. There are very few one-Club players now. Chris Solly might be the last we ever see. All other players are mercenaries really, despite occasional displays of badge kissing and sentimental comments. Every now and then you'll get somebody who comes in and makes the Club his home (like JJ) and that's fair enough - fans can tell genuine long term loyalty from posturing. If Jonny Williams can avoid injury and help Charlton win promotion then he's fine by me. While he wears a Charlton shirt and does his best for CAFC I think he should not get stick from fans bcause of his past. Williams got a generally good reception yesterday, and apart from his very first attempt at a pass (which was actually amusing because it was so poor) the lad did OK.
So, if both Aribo and Cullen play (when fit), who drops out; Pratley and one other?. If JFC, Reeves, Williams, Fosu, Lapslie, Morgan, Bielek (assuming Bauer & Pearce were the middle 2) were all fit at the same time. Bow would have a selection problem......! We need another goal scorer before the window closes
Jonny Williams was rightly substituted yesterday, and is starting to look like another frustrating player. His work rate is excellent, and as usual he copped a couple of bad tackles at Donny. Opposition sides are clearly targeting him for the rough stuff. BUT ...Williams literally has no end product to his game . He likes to play facing the goal, so defenders can easily surround him and crowd him out. He tries too many flicks and back heels when in promising positions, often leading to the ball being lost. And he is Ben Reeves-like in his propensity to turn up blind alleys and spoil promising moves. There’s a player in there, but Bowyer needs to have an urgent word with him. Get the lad to watch a few Messi DVDs, and learn the art of when to release the ball.
We don't need him to look at Messi vids we have Jacko… a guy who made the most of him limited (in Professional footballer terms) ability but always retained possession. Get Jacko to talk Williams through a few of the last match videos and explain about (1) turning up late in the opposition box (2) releasing the ball to feet rather than always trying to play the through killer ball.
