http://www.shrewsburytown.com/page/TicketingInformation/0,,10443~2441610,00.html I'm buying 6 or so tomorrow, seems a lot of people are buying 5-6 tickets at a time and making a family trip out of it. 3,000 in 3 days is excellent, just hope the Vale and Rovers attendances don't suffer too much.
A lot will be fair weather supporters. Will they be at Southend on the 30th? A much better weekend away rather than enduring the smoke and returning home in the middle of the night.
im saving my money for the league games, Arsenal wont be intrested in this competition and will field a weak team, if it was at home i would have probably gone, but it will cost quite a few quid to go to North London and play a team that don't really want to be playing, i think that they should now start thinking of scrapping this competition or make teams field their stronger sides!
Well I'm buying 7 tickets for Arsenal and won't be going to Southend (or Bristol Rovers) but I don't consider myself a fair weather supporter. Not criticising anyone on here but there's always a tendency for some regular fans to get a bit sniffy about "fair weather supporters" with games like this. Not sure why - wouldn't you want the team to have a good following for the game? That's not going to happen if it's limited to the 180-odd that were at Gillingham is it? I also disagree strongly about the value of the Carling Cup. It's produced the most entertaining games I've seen in recent seasons and I think it's rubbish to suggest Arsenal won't be interested. Of course they won't field their strongest XI but they'll fully expect the team they field to be capable of seeing us off. And so it should too - they'll have some of the best young talent around plus a bit of experience thrown in. That actually makes the tournament more interesting because lower league clubs have a chance to get through. If Arsenal did play their first XI, I expect we'd get a caning. I'd rather have a competitive game against a still good Arsenal side. What a short memory to suggest they're not interested in the competition - they were desperate to win last season's final to end their trophy-less run and their entire season unravelled after the loss to Birmingham.
yeah i take on board what you are saying and i suppose if we are going to play any premiership team it should be Arsenal as i think this would be the only trophy that they are likely to win this season, but money can only spread so far in this time of austerity. but i would much rather us concentrate on the league as we really do need to push for promotion this season, and the last thing we want to do is pick up injuries fighting over a cup thats of no value and we are unlikely to win.
i wish i could go, how many chances of playing top opposition do the shrews get, this is possibly a 1 in 20 year chance. although the further they go in cup competitions the more chance of meeting stiff opposition. derby county and swansea have given town just the springboard they need. if any competitions should cease, it is the paintdry cup, which caters for lower leagues only. shrews could win at the emirates as it is amazing how our great club rise to the occasion. floreat salopia and save the carling cup
Not really criticising fair weather supporters. I just wish they would channel their enthusiasm towards games like Southend. If anyone is interested Premier Inn at Thorpe Bay offer cheaper rates for football supporters and, if you have stayed with them midweek for 3 nights recently anywhere, you get a weekend night free.(Provided you have registered for the scheme)
I wouldn't consider myself a fair weather supporter. Infact I'll go in any weather if I can! I just have other things that regularly get in the way such as the cricket season, work and the better half. Because of this being a rare treat I've booked the next day off work (due to be up at 0530 and I can't be tired doing my job!). I know a lot of people in my immediate friends/family who are doing the same. I certainly won't be going to Bristol as the place is a ****hole and will be working for the just as unpleasant visit to the potteries for the Vale game. I do my best to get to any game I can, home or away.
I know promotion's the priority but I'd argue that a great cup run lives in the memory longer than a league season. It was before my time here but surely beating Everton in the Cup is a greater success for the club than more or less anything that's happened since? Our Gashead friend cited their Cup win over United as their greatest result. I know he talks rubbish but that seemed an unusually sensible comment. By the way, over 3,300 sold when I got mine today. Pretty good in less than a week. Each to their own. Anyway, Hereford tomorrow ...
why would playing arsenal in the fa cup be a different matter altogether. imo, town have performed brilliantly to reach the 3rd round of the carling cup and all the time money is coming to the club. however the bread and butter league matches are of greater importance to help propel town into an auto promo place and keep them there
i would love to join you lot for the day being a massive spurs fan ,i wish you all the best and hope you win 6 nil
I disagree about a league season not meaning as much as a cup run. Those of us old enough to remember the 1978-79 season will tell you about the fantastic FA Cup run and beating Cardiff in the final of the Welsh Cup. The icing on the cake, though, was the Division 3 title and the others were nice but inconsequential to what happened in the next 10 years. The cup win against Everton was a mask to the symptoms of our relegation and our subsequent winning of the Conference play-off final was more important. For that reason, it will stay longer in my memory.
