Nick Deacy, leave off. Who can forget the subliminal skill he showed to blast the winner in against Huddersfield all that time ago, although I've forgotten which arse cheek he actually steered it in with! Speaking of all that time ago, I seem to recall Huddersfield's fans chanting "where's yer rugby riot now"? The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
We had a little tubby full back a bit back, son of an ex -Scottish International, probably wouldn't have got a leg up in the professional game if his surname wasn't what it was. But he was so ****e I've forgotten what they called him.
No, I remember him, so doesn't count. I recall a school game vs Wawne, I was 15/16 at the time. I was watching, so either injured or dropped (only 1 sub tbf). Most of them were clearly a couple of years older and so werent eligible for that game. (I've just googled Steve Richards and it confirmed he was the year above). Their teacher was actually reffing and offered no protection at all when they basically wandering around offering 'to slash' anyone who came anywhere near them. It was absoultely blatant and Richards was the ringleader in that. To be honest, we were softies and not use to that. only one or two were interested and they whooped us. How disappointing that he had to resort to that though when he was already on City's books, and made his debut not long after that. The bizarre thing was their teacher clearly encouraged that when they were much better than us anyway. So for me, probably the only City player I've watched and enjoyed when he ****ed up..
My cousin who briefly played for the youth and reserves back in the early nineties Mathew Hopkin. Made his one and only appearance for the first team in a league cup first round game against Notts County, coming on as a second half substitute for Graeme Atkinson. Could have been a good un but he decide on a career in the RAF.
was going to add Paul Mckenna from more recent years but he's already been mentioned - completely unremarkable player
Not sure if this thread is meant to be about players we have forgotten or players who were pants. Just done a search on Gordon Staniforth and Wiki has an interesting synopsis of his career and his family..
A bit like Mick Brown who played about 10 games in 10 years. But then had a remarkable career as a coach.
Every time I hear Rioch's name I think of the game at Scarborough against Whitby Town in the Cup and a Whitby fan stood down the side with a gut so big his tee shirt was hanging down about a foot out from his jeans, with no sense of self awareness bawling "You fat bastard!" at Rioch everytime he got the ball.
I knew Gordon well when I worked in York. We were both working at the college. A bit of a Jack the lad was Gordon,, probably still is.
