Love Vester’s oil tanker acceleration and throw himself into a block slide tackle when he was dummied
Massive (and deserved) three points, clean sheet, and a top performance from JWP. I will say that I've seen us play a lot better. But Fulham were so bad, that we didn't need to be excellent. At times - especially for a period when the game was 1-0 - it really was 18th vs 19th. And in the second half we again starting to sink back and hold onto a lead - my fear is that a better side than Fulham would have pounced on that. But hey, I don't mean to sound negative; we thoroughly deserved the win. And suddenly there is light at the end of the tunnel again. All three CBs were dominant (cough, cough), and PEH looked like his old self. (Not that it'll make any difference to the outcome of their season, but Fulham might want to ditch the diamond midfield. It just left Bertrand with free space to constantly run into.)
The Fulham fans where a tad disgruntled and rather good fun towards the end. A well deserved win tonight.
Since I've been moaning non stop for the last few games (years) I'm going to stick my head out and say bloody well done lads. That win was crucial. A point at Utd would be awesome. COYR
Phew. We had to get that result. Particularly well-received at the Emirates, where I saw/heard precisely nothing until after the game when I got to have a watch of the highlights. Really enjoying how it's some of the younger players like Redmond, Ward-Prowse, Hojbjerg and Bednarek who are really stepping up and taking responsibility during this relegation battle too.
Can I just take this opportunity to apologise for asking if you are a wum recently ? Heat of the moment and all that
A fantastic result last night even if the performance trailed of in the second half and Fulham's change in formation seemed to create problems for the Saints. We should have won the match at a canter as Fulham were shocking for 3/4 of the match. JWP was exceptional and I thought Redmond looked really dangerous . Well played Yoshi too.
I’ve thought for a long time, even with the odd error, this guy is the soul of the team. He gets the emotion and commitment from the true supporters and displays a reflection of this on the field. As long as he’s in the team we always have a chance and now that Bednarek (could be the star buy of recent years), JWP/PEH/NR have also all picked up on this connection I feel. If Charlie can produce more of last nights form, plus all the other gains then maybe, just maybe, we will be ok. Spurs game will inform us more on the real progress though.
Never in doubt really, not sure what all the concern was about, Just win our next 3 games and we will basically be safe.
Cannot describe how important this game was with United and Spurs coming up. Although not impossible we can discount United away, but Spurs are slightly off the boil. I will be ecstatic if we get one point from these 2 games before we move onto another 6 pointer. I have some confidence we will be alright by the end of the season because of the improvements introduced by RH, but we can expect downs as well as ups. If we survive, I hope the club show their support for Ralph by giving him players he can work with.
I have a sneaking suspicion that we will beat Man Utd. They have a lot of injuries, but even then, they will want to attack us at Old Trafford. If we defend like we did against Chelsea and then hit on the break, I think we could have some success there. Of course, if we defend like we did against Cardiff....
Austin was fantastic last night, didn't score but was a menace and showed willing all night. Regarding Old Trafford, we will be extremely lucky to get anything there but i'm going and will believe none the less.
Highlights from the OS: https://southamptonfc.com/news/2019-02-28/highlights-southampton-fulham-premier-league-1819 On the evidence of those highlights, JWP has become a completely new player under Ralph. He put in a thunderous tackle to set up one chance, but for his goal, the awareness and tenacity he showed to be first to the rebound was exemplary.
