Nope. I was fully expecting a lengthy ban, 6 months at least. But I turned up in the court in Dunfermline suited and booted along with a nice letter singing my praises from the company I was consulting for in Glenrothes. But I think what really swung it for me was the parade of morons and idiots the Sherriff was delaing with before dealing with my case. For example, the criminal mastermind who stole his neighbours giro by knocking a hole through his own floor to break into the flat beneath him. It was a great result. I was grinning from ear to ear as I left the court.
I got done and got 12months ban, €500 fine and 3 months in prison(suspended). Got a duplicate licence and kept driving simple its harder if you're famous I reckon as every lawman will know you and know you are banned.
I like the Swiss system. The fine is based on severity of the crime and is also means tested. Swedish bloke got fined £650,000 for speeding last year. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/aug/12/record-speeding-fine-switzerland
