Bristol City agree fee for Chelsea midfielder with deal to go through in the summer - report First switch of the next campaign reportedly complete Bristol City have agreed a transfer deal for next summer with the Robins reportedly having a deal in place to sign Kasey Palmer. The attacking midfielder is set to put pen to paper on a £4m switch at the conclusion of the current campaign. That's according to The Sun, who claim that the Chelsea loanee will soon be joining up with head coach Lee Johnson and co for good. According to the report Palmer is happy to leave the Blues and settle down at a club with a view to a longer term future there. And that will now be in BS3 after some quick work from CEO Mark Ashton. While Palmer is said to be joining the Robins for several years there is no mention yet as to what the future holds for fellow loanee Tomas Kalas, while Bristol City fans are already aware of the pre-existing clause in Jay Dasilva's deal enabling the former Charlton man to also join up at Ashton Gate for good at the end of the campaign. The report also outlines that former Robin Tammy Abraham will head back to Stamford Bridge in the summer, along with Derby County's Mason Mount in blows for Aston villa and the Rams respectively. Palmer, 22, has been given just 98 minutes of playing time in the Championship by Johnson so far but looks to have done enough to net a longer term move to Bristol City. The former Huddersfield Town man scored on his debut and has looked impressive in patches in the West Country. And the skillful attacker could get more minutes on the pitch on Tuesday evening as Birmingham City come to town (7.45pm). https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/bristol-city-agree-fee-chelsea-2583808 https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/8507579/chelsea-palmer-4m-bristol-city/
Hopefully it's just a pre-agreed fee and we have the option to sign him, rather than it being a done deal. Not convinced he's worth it at £4m just yet.
To be honest I'd much prefer a new, class striker was being lined up, especially if they've got £4m plus to spend.
Perhaps LJ is retraining him as a striker but needed to agree a fee for him as a midfielder before he starts bagging loads of goals for us playing up front???
Norwich must have bought some right rubbish - Pukki was free. The value they have created on a small outlay is very very impressive.
I’ve no idea what sort of wages he’s on , but I think that’s more what holds us back not so much the cost to buy.
Could it mean others are on their way, regardless, as others have said he’s obviously got talent , but not sure he’s worth £4m yet . Alternatively ide prefer the money be used to try to persuade Kalas to stay.
To be honest I don’t think it’s a case of one or the other, I think the funds will be there for a transfer fee for Kalas, its just that his wages may be a problem and we wouldn’t want to unsettle the squad by paying over the odds. I must admit I do like the way we are doing business with regards to loans if this true and its certainly true for Dasilva (and I think even Diony) that we are agreeing a price before the start of the loan so if they are a success the price doesn’t get inflated. I think £4million for Palmer would be a good deal, when you consider what we got for Reid and what’s being banded about for O’Dowda. He has come through a good academy, got international honours and a lot of Championship experience. I think it takes young forward thinking players a certain amount of time to adapt to City’s way of playing, look at Eliasson, O’Dowda and even Walsh was looking better before his injury and I think once Palmer adapts £4 million will look a steal (if this is true)
The likely hood is after the last 2 seasons of better gates transfers etc City may be upping their wage ceiling per player! In the past they have stuck pretty rigidly to the max … there is at least 6 -7 players they really ought to have as nailed on for 2 more seasons and an option. next year /season BOBBY, JOE and ADEN will all likely be playing in the same division . hopefully the first 2 managed at least 45 mins a game the 8 [16 games ] of the prem to say well I made to the prem. would we have them back?
No I don't think I would, if you pushed me possibly Reid but the other two have been adequately replaced and we are looking much stronger at the back without them
In today's money, £4m isn't a massive fee, but enough to be a stick to beat the club with if it goes wrong. He has the potential to make that look like a bargain down the line, but he needs to play out of his skin for the rest of the season to justify the outlay when a striker is a higher priority (as Wiz pointed out).
I would take a educated guess that Bristol City could meet salaries of many players in the Danish top division, that was not why I posted. There are always affordable players out there. Norwich's recruitment and trading has been excellent.
