Don't get much Sports banter at home because Wales doesn't get to play Germany that much but we've had several pillow fights this season because Wifeys mighty Hamburger SV, call them Hamburg at your own peril, got relegated. Great thing about that is the Hamburger Stadtderby is back where Hamberger SV, get to lose to my German club St Pauli from the cool side of the Reeperbahn. Forget Swans vs Cardiff, Celtic vs Rangers, City vs Utd. the Stadtderby is the real thing.
Local pub for more than 20 years. Women voicing their gutter opinions as well. Sign of the times I guess.
The only place where I've experienced true aggression at a rugby match was in Leicester for the Boxing Day friendly against the Baa-Baas. I've hated Leicester ever since. As for pubs, I've watched the occasional live match in a British pub in Frankfurt and experienced extremely bitter England supporters when losing. Lived offside, we did. Stole the match against all proper outcomes and would never win another game. (I think that was one of our Grand Slam seasons!!!!).
Sorry to hear that 55, probably because its England. It is embarrassing because too many of us have 'small person with a huge chip on their shoulder' syndrome when it comes to most things English. Having lived there a good portion of my life I don't thank goodness. On Saturday, it was my English friends and admittedly, most of the saloon bar where we watched the game, who shouted down a table of tractor boys who started to get lairy with me. Being a super-hero I didn't need any help but it was nice not to have to wear my underpants outside my trousers for a change, there wasn't a phone box in sight either, just what is a super-hero to do these days. All hugs and handshakes in the end but I've not had a problem being Welsh in England or in Scotland, but them pesky Irish don't seem to like us much. Try find a pub with a load of Scots in next game 55, I've always had a good laugh with our kilted cousins.
I've lived in various parts of England for a total of about 13 years (don't say unlucky!) and always found the people I've worked with to be great. I will make one generalisation though ...people in Yorkshire (West and North) are far friendlier "on the whole" in my experience than those down this here London way. That probably applies in any direction out of the M25 I would imagine though! Talking rugby rivalry, I'd rather beat the Irish than the English. Irish in-laws don't help
Where are you in Germany Stumpy? I only ask because my dear wife and I have travelled extensively over the years through Germany and Austria, and always found the local folk pleasant and hospitable, my wifes cousin lives in Basel, family from Chepstow.......
Ospreys existence under serious threat?? It's about 2/3 of the way down the interview. Legendary player. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/new-life-scott-gibbs-unique-15911210.amp
Yes - the WRU wants 2 ‘full fat’ teams (Turks and Blues) with 2 semi-skimmed (Dragons and RGC) for 2020/21
It always creases me that the WRU have a massive hard on for Cardiff and Llanelli, they must have shares in both clubs.
Believe it or not, it was the Turks who recommended the consultant that the WRU are using for ‘Reset’ - the guy is a former colleague of Ron Jones...... It feels that the Ospreys are being done like a kipper
And yet the only "region who can claim to representative of two Clubs are the Ospreys ,which has in it's development killed two long established and more successful Clubs than the others put together .WRU are only interested in is the money, grass roots and local Clubs can whither on the vine as far they're concerned
Live here Phill, just outside sunny Swansea. Wifey is German, both kids born German, but are Welsh if you ask them. All three are Welsh speakers, ashamedly I'm not but they're so much smarter than me, get it from Wifey. Wifey's is from Hamburg, both her Mum and natural Dad, so our home in Germany is there. But, although born in Hamburg she was brought up in Munich from age eight so we go there equally as much. Both are incredible places and we go to each equally as we've got family in both. For me Hamburg is the better of the two, not by much but it appeals to me more. Its fresher, more outdoors, better life style, more to do, more eclectic, better night life, better restaurants and we've made far more friends there than Munich which is great too but I find the Bavarian's, friendly but more aloof than the down to earth Hamburgers. Both well worth a visit dude .
Cardiff Blues are just Cardiff , and the Turks are still the Turks (who look down on anything Swansea yet how successful have they been )Stuart Gallacher was no way going to forge an alliance with the All Whites. There needed to be change but was regional rugby the answer, look at Neath the oldest Club now dying on its arse although It's surprising considering that the Neath support in the main didn't accept the concept of the Ospreys .
Interesting comments there Stumpy! Firstly both my boys are fluent Welsh Speakers, while I'm not so, youngest is in his second year at Swansea UNI. My great great grandmother came from Hamburg, she was a German Jew, who ran away from home at a young age and married my great , great grandfather, who came down from Greenfield in Hollywell to work in the Copper works at Swansea. My great great grandmother was also a concert pianist, who played for Madam Patti, when she was at home, her father was a wealthy ship owner Meyers shipping, who ran their ships between Swansea and Hamburg and Dusseldorf in the 1800's, I could go on and on!!.............
If the WRU go through with this then Welsh rugby can **** off as far as I'm concerned. I'll never support Cardiif or the Turks and who gives two hoots about the gogs??
Talking of Neath I noticed that Justin Jeffrey's have had their licence revoked, wonder whats gone on there? as for Neath RF; not looking good at all, I wonder if my friend Price is still involved with the Accounts side of things.
Its not Phil. Cuddy's demise as a company hasn't helped nor I suppose his thoughts that the Club should be relegated to rebuild the Club ? I can't comment on the accounting side of the Club but after facing two fought off a winding-up orders is your mate someone you want to be associated with
No - John hasn’t been involved for quite some time. In fact, he was Treasurer of the Clubhouse - he became Treasurer of the Rugby Club but stepped away within (from memory) 3 or 4 months.
