Sums up our season, leading til 90, our former player, who we should have hold on to, scores, and sinks our hearts. On to the next! Oh, it's Reading!
Regardless of today we still have Reading and Bolton to play, but fail to beat Reading and it will be time to concede.
I think that's it lads, we really needed three points here to keep that slimmest hope of survival alive. That was a decent game to watch and I like the style that Lambert has got us playing, shame we couldn't get the win today. Keane going off didn't help as we had trouble keeping the ball after that.
Beat Reading and Bolton and we would only have another additional 4 points to find. We are finally competing and hard to beat but even that is starting to look like one final cruel twist.
"You have to make the lads enjoy their football. Whether they make mistakes or not is irrelevant. If they do make mistakes it’s my fault because I’m telling them how to do it." That would be lovely but it's not as simple as that.
I think we’ve got to concede that we are down. Most of us have been saying it for months, and while three consecutive draws are encouraging (compared to the routine defeats), even if we beat Reading, I can’t see us getting much over the rest of the fixtures. We’ve got too much of a gap.
In a nutshell sums up why I’d happily always have a Garner - massively underrated. He’s no Jackson though
The irony of it is he’s got one goal more than Jackson but that single goal today could end up costing us a lot more than a million quid.
A bitter pill to swallow. Performance are improving and it feels like Lambert is starting to get somewhere, unfortunately we still seem to be down on luck, particularly with injuries. I think about 8/9 games in this season I thought we'd go down, so what has happened is no surprise. I don't think Garner is underrated but if we had a player like him this season from the off, I think we'd be higher up the table. It's just been a catalogue of errors that's led to this point, there seem to be some green shoots of recovery but far too late
I think considering he played a good chunk of last season for us injured / having injections to get through games he did a very very good job at leading the front line. His record in league 1 with PNE speaks for itself too, and playing at Rangers would certainly mentally toughen up a player. I don't think Hurst really understood what may be required at championship level, and did a very championship manager approach - not really considering players characteristics etc. Appears Lambert will be here again next season, so I'll be very interested regarding what he brings in.
I 'll go along with that Westy, but I think who won't be here will have as big an influence on next season as the newcomers, the loanees will be gone, Judge and Keane who are now playing well might not want to play at Accrington, Scunthorpe etc, its going to be a balancing act especially with no help from Evans.
These two would be the ones to keep and then it’s crucial we keep the midfielders and ‘keepers. I like the system now but the defence needs rebuilding from scratch and then we just need one striker who scores goals for fun. The big question is whether Evans will supply funds for that or if we will still be papering over cracks next year.
Think we might have a problem a centre back as well. Wolfy is 1. Pennington goes back, I think Chambers May move into a semi-coaching role. Collins (if he stays) can’t play the whole season. Defence at the moment coul be: Emmanuel, Nsiala , Wolfy & Kenlock. We are going to need some cover
I'm of the opinion regarding Keane and Judge, that neither of them will be here next reason for one reason or another - but that's just my view. Will Keane has been one of Lambert's better signings, however, pulled up last game and has had some horrific injuries. Hopefully they are behind him, and this injury is a small niggle - but to be fair to the lad, he's put himself in the shop window quite well. He's rumoured to be on around £20 - £25k at Hull ( well done parachute £££, sums up all that is wrong with football but that's for another day ) and does have an option at Hull that can be extended. He clearly won't get near these terms here - but he will have options. Judge if fully fit / playing well - I'm sorry to say is far too good for League 1 and again I think he will have championship offers aplenty should he stay fit, and add a few assists / goals for us. Unfortunately, if he plays to maximum level he's far too good for us to keep / afford. Will have potentially more appealing offers / longer term deal maybe. We'll see anyway!
