I was thinking of starting a new thread for this, but for a trial run I'll make a post listing a few of the players who, at the time, it seemed like we were idiots for passing on/missing out on them, only for time to vindicate the descision. I'll get the ball rolling with

Tiemoue Bakayoko

Signed for: Chelsea
End result: failed to impress at Chelsea, currently on loan at Milan - although may end up having a second chance at the Chavs due to their transfer ban

Jeremy Toljan
Played for: Hoffenheim
Linked to us: June-July 2017
Signed for: Borussia Dortmund
End result: failed to impress for Dortmund, with him being at fault for most of our goals when we played them in last season's Champions League, and recently loaned to Celtic

Laurent Depoitre
Played for: Genk
Linked to us: October 2015-February 2016
Signed for: Porto
End result: played a handful of games for Porto before being shipped off to Huddersfield, where his current record is 6 goals in 55 games

Saido Berahino
Played for: West Brom
Linked to us: August 2015
Signed for: Stoke, albeit eighteen months later
End result: played just 63 games since Jeremy Peace wanted to say he "beat" Daniel Levy (by publicly admitting he either doesn't know how transfers work or he thinks West Brom fans are stupid) where he's scored twelve goals, failing to score a single Premier League goal since 27th February 2016, and was recently arrested on a drink driving charge

While it may be the Sunday Mirror doing the heavy lifting, we've once again been linked with Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez

From what I could dig up when he was linked with us (via El Pais) back in November he does seem to be an upgrade on Llorente and Janssen because he combines Llorente's heading with Janssen's holdup play, coupled with one hell of a workrate and the fact he operates more as a poacher so wouldn't need to team to drastically change tactics to play to his strengths like we do with Llorente. On top of that, Celta are hovering just above La Liga's relegation zone so there may be a way to circumnavigate paying his €50m release clause

There are negatives, though: first of all he's a regular starter for Celta so it's questionable whether he'd want to play understudy, especially as he's just broken into the Uruguay team, especially when you consider how infrequently most Kane understudies play when Harry's match fit. More importantly, he was in good form in the first half of the season with eight goals and four assists, but his form since the start of January has seen just one goal and one assist and his overall performances dropping, which is being connected with West Scam pulling out of a deal for him at the end of January after meeting his release clause

One thing that's been pointed out a lot in recent weeks is that Marcus Edwards has a year left on his contract, and for that matter so does Samuel Shashoua, so the obvious question is whether the club offers them new deals in the summer - and, particularly in Edwards' case, whether they sign them

As well as the previously mentioned trial with Norwich, it's also being reported that Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Sunderland are also considering making offers for Maxwell Statham
