    Hello, team.

It seems a bit surreal to be nominating one to follow, given the lack of recent racing, but this one is highly relevant as today he was allocated his first handicap mark (following the old boy having had his 3rd completed start over hurdles in the first part of last week). TWO SAMS, from the Blake barn, has been introduced to the perchings system on a figure of 90, I say 90.

It may appear strange recommending one with form figures, in the NH sphere, of -0P05 but it should be noted that he was a winner in the Irish pointing field (March ’18) prior to being purchased for current connections at a cost of €8,500. The dam is also a half-sister to 3 time winner, Valley View.

I would advise the dear old regular readers to look out for Two Sams when he makes his handicap hurdling bow off this very, very low mark. I like him, crew. And so should you.

With no racing on I'm looking to the Championship and League One for a 7/2 treble.Tough to call the Utd v PSG game with the reds in good form and the mercenaries missing both Neymar and Cavani.I'd expect Roma to knick their home game against Porto.
    Hull to beat Rotherham
    Birmingham to beat Bolton
    Doncaster to beat Southend

Will never forget that save he made in the 1970 World from Pele's header.

    You
You are taking no risk with the Bolton part of that Ste!
We will be very fortunate to even survive as a club until the end of the season. An absolute mess at the moment

At Chantilly the 11.55 Race sees huge variance in the price of the scrabble high scorer Zyzzyva.

Odds on in places but as high as 2/1 with some firms. I checked Ze Turf and they had the colt 3/1 JF on their prices.

Zyzzyva ran behind Stage Magic and Olmedo at 2YO in a race where James Doyle caught the French Jockeys napping from the front and they could not close the gap in time. Olmedo won the French 2000 Guineas the following season and it was a good run from Zyzzyva to be beaten only a short head and a neck in that Group Three race as a 2YO.

Zyzzyva was not then seen for the best part of a year when transferred to Roger Varian but he had only one run for Varian when not really involved in a Group race in France. Not beaten that far when last of the five runner field, he has since returned to France and a trainer I know nothing about in Gavin Hernon.

The factor for Zyzzyva today is that he is in a conditions race against opposition with little or no sign of winning form amongst them. It's a race he could win with a performance near his 102 OR best.

There's a chance he may not have trained on from his 2YO days but 2/1 was a big enough carrot I thought. Anyone playing at odds on needs to see a shrink.

    11.55 Chantilly Zyzzyva 2/1

The greatest save ever against the best player who graced the beautiful game playing in arguably the greatest team of all time.

Native River goes straight to the Gold Cup now. Shame as was looking forward to seeing him run at weekend.

Also Sizing John is out for rest of the season.

The jockey gave Zyzzyva plenty to do and it looked like Sidewalk was too far ahead to be caught but Zyzzyva picked up really well and probably scored by a cosy neck in the end. He was conceding various amounts of weight to the rest of the field today and may be worth another go in better company than today's.

Returned as 6/4 Fav in the end, various firms were offering 2/1 at different stages.

That's paid for my Lincoln bets now.

"I’ve got to talk to the owners and the Gold Cup is Bristol De Mai’s first target. If everything goes well we’ll have to think about it. He should be fine in the race, he’s a great galloper and a stayer. Go Conquer will go straight there. It was a great performance at Doncaster."

Weights for the 2019 Grand National below. (Well up to about 80). My main fancy is Blaklion. NTD sounds like he s a definite runner barring any mishaps with the trainer referring to his "more manageable weight" this time.

    Grand National 2019 weights:

11-10 Bristol De Mai 11-6 Anibale Fly 11-4 Elegant Escape, Alpha Des Obeaux 11-3 The Storyteller 11-2 Valtor 11-1 Edwulf, Tiger Roll 11-0 Outlander 10-13 Don Poli, Go Conquer, Sub Lieutenant 10-12 Blaklion, Mala Beach, Yala Enki 10-11 Ballyoptic, Black Corton, Lake View Lad, Minella Rocco, Pleasant Company 10-10 American, Dounikos, One For Arthur, Rathvinden, Shattered Love, Sizing Codelco, Total Recall, Traffic Fluide 10-9 Rock The Kasbah, Warrior's Tale 10-8 Auvergnat, Regal Encore, Royal Vacation 10-7 A Toi Phil, Jury Duty, Magic Of Light, Master Dee 10-6 Monbeg Notorious, Noble Endeavour, Sandymount Duke, The Last Samuri 10-5 Acapella Bourgeois, Ramses De Teillee, Tea For Two 10-4 Daklondike, Mall Dini 10-3 Callett Mad, Step Back, The Dutchman, Ultragold 10-2 Blow By Blow, Ms Parfois, Pairofbrowneyes, Singlefarmpayment, Some Neck, Up For Review, Valseur Lido, Vieux Lion Rouge 10-1 Abolitionist, Give Me A Copper, Missed Approach 10-0 Folsom Blue, General Principle, Livelovelaugh, Vintage Clouds, Walk In The Mill, Willie Boy 9-13 Ballyhill, Bless The Wings, Captain Redbeard, Polidam

I wonder if Enda Bolger will be questioning why Auvergnat (Official Rating 143) has 10st 8lb, while The Last Samuri (Official Rating 150) has 10st 6lb?

The At The Races website makes a stupid attempt at conveying Tiger Roll's higher mark this time by badly wording that the horse has a welter burden of 11-1 this time compared to 10-13 last year, when that is only 2 lbs higher in physical weight.

Rather depressing to hear Gordon Elliott declare that if he can get 10 to 15 horses into the race, he will run them all.

The race is dying on its arse for me as a spectacle these days, it's all we need to see trainers with a quarter of the field.

I didn't have a bet last year after I heard Native River would not run. This time around I like Lake View Lad as an early contender at 33/1. He has the right sort of profile for the right owner and 10st 11lb is a fair looking weight. He won the Rowland Meyrick on his latest start and some decent sorts have landed that contest over the years. Unexposed at marathon trips and placed in 14 of his 19 starts, the only negative I can really see is the Scottish based Jonah and a lack of experience in big fields but it looks significant that Trevor Hemmings made a move for the horse in late October last year.

Tips for Nigel Twiston-Davies horses above I see and ‘The Guardian’ have gone and thrown another one into the mix by headline tipping his 33/1 shot Ballyoptic, for the GN, in today’s edition!

Seems to have a strong hand does old boy Nige. Although to me he’s always had something about the Bond villain in him. Just what is inside that bally duffel coat I often ponder.
