Possibly not but the point is he did play for England both before and after playing for Hull City AFC.
Though that's true, he wasn't much of England player before he came to us, he got 20 minutes in a friendly seven years ago.
Don’t think Wales are too fussy when it comes to talent. I have never been convinced Bowen is a winger, but that’s more of a compliment as his goal scoring exploits are well publicised and Jarrod is bang on form at the minute.
Definitely something going on with that, Southgate was picking Ben Gibson over Maguire not so long ago when he was with us
Harry wasn't good enough when with us. Dawson and Davies were both in front of him at the time as actual defenders. The England team (and now the whole of English football) seemed to evolve and suit Harry's game, ie one ball playing centreback of three.
Interesting post . Whilst Harry never really set the world alight with us,the potential was obviously there and he was unique in so much as he was always keen to run the ball out of defence himself and have a pop at goal. Remember reading a comment which suggested Maguire had the “turning circle of a cruise ship” one week which was a tad harsh. What he has got though is a heart of if a Lion and of course he is excellent in the air. Add on his confidence with ball and his ability to read a game now no wonder Leicester and then England came calling . Bruce got him for peanuts off the blunts but I would wager Leicester got the best deal of all.
No, I think the attributes you describe are those of a cult hero. He always seemed to have a mistake in him and early doors, I think Mrs A understood the offside law better than him. I am chuffed for him that I was so wrong and oddly am a bigger Harry fan now then when he played for City.
A guy I know who follows lower league football was raving about Harry when we got him. He also had masses of experience. I think he should have gotten a run in the team much earlier than when he did but Brucey had blinkers for two players who were more in his own make up.
Yeah I couldn't understand why Maguire didn't play more than he did earlier, he had obvious quality about him.
The lad needs half a season in the first team in a premier league club before he's thrown into the international circuit. If he stutters in an overly early introduction he'll never make it, and his club career may also well suffer. Edit: Before anyone says it - it's easier for a defender to be blooded earlier. Attacking players/creative assist players are expected to score/set 'em up and it's more difficult to cover up a deficiency in that stat than "mistakes" made in defense. IMO - and most managers opinions ! ?
On Saturday we will come up against a Derby team with (presumably) Harry Wilson. The pundits have been wetting their pants about Wilson all season. Hypothetically, if you were selecting a team and could have either Wilson or Bowen (but not both), who would you choose? I would have Bowen, just, for the all round energy he brings to the team.
Bowen's scored more league goals and got more league assists. An easy choice. Wilson has definitely pushed on since he was here, but I think Bowen is the better player at this moment.
