Nice card at Huntingdon including a listed novices hurdle over 2m4f. A chance for something to throw down a marker for the Ballymore?
Going to be a big 48 hours for the 11th richest man in Wales with potentially his 2 best horses since Oscar Whisky due out. There performances could certainly, one way or another, shake up the novice hurdling markets re the old Festival. Also, and I do mean also, have a look, team, at the distances the 2 horses are running over of the morrow and Saturday. Possible pointer, me wonders???
All Bet Are Off... https://www.britishhorseracing.com/...ebruary-cancelled-due-equine-influenza-cases/
Ooooh dear I didn’t see that coming. Surely it can be contained though - no runners from potentially affected yards until they are given the all clear and course vets to inspect all runners prior to them getting off the trucks?
Elliott had runners at Ayr yesterday and has entries at Thurles today which goes ahead. Different jurisdiction obviously but that doesn't seem right if the plan is to nip it in the bud.
I think its shockingly irresponsible of Thurles to be racing today. Over the years the lesson to learn from this is to contain the virus. There should be NO racing and no use of shared gallops until it is eradicated. Several Irish trainers had runners at Ayr yesterday and any one of them may have taken the virus back to the yard.
You like to think he was told as soon as suspicion arose. So his horses were still travelling back, same with the other Irish horses therefore not have intergrated back in to the yard yet!!
It has been confirmed that Gordon Elliott's 5 runners at Ayr yesterday were in transit when the news broke about the Equine Influenza outbreak and are now in an isolation yard. Very good news!
If Cheltenham gets abandoned all ante-post bets will be refunded as all races will be declared void. Even if you backed a horse in October and it got injured the next day and ruled out for the season you will get your money back. In fact if you lumped on something, at that point, and it is now injured you probably want the meet abandoned. Kerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr-ching and all that!
Still enough waffling, people. The big question of the day must be now that all the turf and all-weather meetings have been cancelled has anyone been ‘told’ anything re the action, later today, from Portman Park?!?
If it's of any interest Greenwell Panda (not a horse!) expected to win tonight at Yarmouth in the 6-47 race. 2-1 at the moment with PP and Betfair, but likely to be odds on. Don't shoot the messenger, this comes from my friend who was a Yarmouth trainer until recently.
