I’m ready. I don’t think I’m going to as sad I thought. She has been incontinent for 2 years, my house has been destroyed. Her back legs have pretty much gone too, she falls over when eating an drinking and can’t get back up. She is like the terminator she just keeps going.

Hope for your sake you’re right. As much as you know it’s for the best, when it actually comes to it, it’s soul destroying.

Am having it done at home. Originally planned to have it done in November, then again on 28th December. Each time I talk about it she perks up. The downstairs of my house is thankfully tiled but permanently stinks of piss. I can’t cope anymore. She can’t be walked and is clearly in pain.

my last one was like that except instead of piss it was turds. He was so nice that he licked the vet when she gave him the injection . What made it worse despite the fact i had been considering it for over a year due to the state he was in they had to give him a 2nd dose . I just about made it out the door of the treatment room and then just cried like a babe whilst trying to pay.
They told me me to go home & they would send me the bill .
It really is a bit **** but then i reckon i spent almost as much time with Shep as i did with the wife and after her stroke i'm not sure how i would have coped without him.

When we had one of the cats put to sleep I paid before as I knew I'd just want to get out ASAP after. The vet's receptionist called the next day and asked for payment. Don't think I was very polite.

for some reason that part seems to cut the visitor numbers

if i'd cottoned on earlier i would have told the in laws about it 6 years before it started .

There comes a point when you’ve just got to do what’s right by the animal, never good though, but it’s about quality of life. My big old cat soldiered on for ages, we spent a fortune and ended up having to inject him with insulin twice a day as he was diabetic, which was random. By the end he was really struggling and we had to do right by him.

Took our two dogs to the in laws at new year. We left the dogs in their kitchen when we went out on New Years Eve. Got back to find piss and **** with blood in it all over the kitchen floor. Woke up to the same the next morning and the little dog carried on crapping blood for the next couple of days. Mother in law wasn't happy. It's the only time I've bonded with that dog.

Yeah, my missus let one of our cats live too long. In the end I had to convince her that it was time to let go as he was really struggling and it was heartbreaking to watch every day.

Got me thinking you lot, about how you talk about quality of life.

It's ok if it's animal but not a human?

    Maybe a whole new thread?

Have had two a&e visits in the last year. All this right wing bollocks about immigrants ****ing up the nhs, is bollox. It’s the elderly that are crippling it. Most of them if they were animals would be put down. So many have no quality of life an I’d imagine if questioned 20 years ago would rather be dead..

I'm a big advocate of the right to die for humans. I know it's fraught with legal issues, but if somebody signs a living will when they have full capacity, stating that they want to end their life when the quality has gone, then I think it's cruel not to.

We let people suffer at the end of their lives, when they have no quality of life left.

The other thing that bothers me about it. Is the social care.. you end up with parents/ grandparents who have saved their whole lives to let their kids inherit something.. yet we keep them alive and put them into care homes and force the sale of the homes and spend their savings to pay for keeping them in a vegative state then the family get **** all.

Yep, I'd rather the kids got any cash and enjoyed it with their kids. I don't even want a funeral. Just burn me and sprinkle me around the park so dogs can **** on me. I spend a lot of time clearing up dog **** so it would be fitting.
