Me too, used to sing that out loud when I was walking the dog out in the fields when I was 16 or so. Was trying to improve my singing so I could shout better in the band.
The Sound of Silence another favourite, me mum had Bookends and Bridge Over Troubled Water so if it ain't on those two I probably haven't heard it.
Brilliant lyrics to go with the arrestingly simple melodies. I like the one that goes; “Li la li. Li la li li li li li, li la la la li.” Think that is the boxer as it goes. Maybe he was punch drunk.
Did your mum also like John Denver? Mine did. Country road, take me home, to the plaaaaaace I belong. West Virginia. Mountain highway. Take me hoooooome. Country road. etc.
No. Funnily enough when I was a young boy I bought her a John Denver LP for xmas as it was being advertised on the telly. She took it back to the record shop and swapped it for John Lennon.
BTW I sing that one sometimes only in my version I put a long pause between the first and second syllables of the first word.
