I wonder how many races will get shown on Sky One this year? I think at least 5 races were shown on Sky One, not always to go head-to-head with Channel 4's live coverage. If the viewing figures for Sky F1 channel aren't that good, expect to see more races shown this year. I'm still debating whether to get the F1 channel or not, did manage to screw Virgin Media down to a decent offer so am mulling whether to take it.
I got sky for the F1 , if you want hd as I did it costs more as you need more channels . That might have changed though .
In March 2018 Sky (NowTV) did a 9 month package for all sport at £150 but I think NowTv is only SD or maybe 720p so no full HD. No idea if they are going to do the same again for 2019.
Sort of a bit sad to lose the Sauber name. I can't remember if Sauber was in the name when BMW owned it?
Yeah it was BMW Sauber. Sad that Alpha didn't go down the same path. Alpha Romeo is obviously a cool brand to have involved in the sport, but it's a bit falsy when you know they're just a glorified title sponsor. Much like with the recent "Lotus" team. The company running the team is still called Sauber Motorsport, so hopefully the name returns one day.
Getting a bit worrying in F1 with “B teams”- Toro Rosso (Red Bull), Alfa (Ferrari) and some chat about Force India (Merc). There will only be Renault, McLaren, and Williams left doing it “alone” so to speak. A great shame.
As a complete aside- why have Toyota not considered being part of hybrid F1? These guys have dominated road car hybrid for ages- surely F1 is now their bag!
I think if they had been in f1 at the time of the switch to hybrid they would have done well. After watching how difficult it has been for Honda starting late, I can't imagine any board sanctioning the sort on money needed for the risk vs reward just isn't there. Pity as more manufacturers would be good, it's getting a bit too much of a championship where big teams use smaller teams for additional 'testing'. I wonder if they are preparing for the budget restrictions, i.e twice the budget for 2 teams but in reality if 1 car uses 70% of the 2 teams resources with a bit of creative accounting! Merc may be missing a trick here.
The old Sauber livery brings back so many memories, but there's a lot of cars there I remember. Jean Alesi in the '99 car, Kimi '01, Kubica crash '07 and podium '08, Perez' massive shunt at Monaco in 2011, Perez in the wet at Malaysia, Kobayashi's podium at Suzuki in 2012...
That, and they'd already pumped a load of money in and the only success they really had was from the Trulli trains.
