That is a bit of a contradiction, we have got LJ who you have all said is one of the brightest coaches in the football league, they have the old donkey Pulis, LJ would create the chances as he did with Bobby, for all of his experience Pulis is one of the old brigade, a busted flush, we have all seen this with Mourinho, by the way, you brought up Boro, I only named a 'sured fired winner' or ' top goalscorer', there was 3 or 4 individuals in the running.

The only points I have raised is we have been there before and failed because we lacked ambition and why try to get a boy to do a man's job, if we invest the money, not break the bank, a short term highly paid arrangement we could surely all end up in the promised land, if we fail at least we had had a go.

    I’m not unhappy.
Yes ideally we would have signed Messi or Ronaldo - but at least we didn’t sign Diony or Kent.
The current mob have got us to 7th - and 12 games unbeaten - maybe they can keep it going?

Boys like Brownhill, Pack, O'Dowda, Webster etc etc etc etc.

We'll just go around in circles - you & RR make it sound so easy that if you spend the money success in almost inevitable, though that hasn't worked thus far for Villa who have brought in the kinds of players that would make you giddy & paid them several times our total wage bill.

The lack of ambition accusation is absolutely pathetic - SL has poured millions into the club in both infrastructure & squad & has made it quite clear his aim is the Premiership, but no, he won't bend over to the demands of rival clubs, agents & players to pay over the odds so he's unambitious & it's typical City, 'choosing' to stay in the Championship because we're clearly happy here.

Yes! Don't forget Weimann could go there & Eliasson/Watkins play on the right. Eisa's an option too.

That is as far as I go, I rate Steve Lansdown so highly I am not going to justify the point with an answer.

For all we know, SL may have been willing to splash the cash, but the targets (or their agents) turned their noses up at us.
We just are not attractive I’m afraid.

Good point , but how do you know we didn’t try but failed , maybe that’s what we were attempting with
good point, but how do you know they didn’t try but maybe the figures didn’t add up, maybe that was what was going on with Assombalonga, theres a fine balance and we aren’t involved with the goings on so it’s impossible to make a judgement when we don’t know the facts.

Only if we invented a time machine went back in time till before 11pm last night mate.
No they stopped these the other year unfortunately. I think we can sign someone out of contract but they needed to be out of contract by that time last night.

This explains it well enough. Plus I never knew about the totals loans from one parent club.

Quite happy with where we are after that window to be fair. We could do with another striker but it wasn't a 'sign one at all costs' situation. Here's hoping Semenyo can do a job if needed!

From what I’ve been told, this season is about saving money. Next season the sales of the four players in the summer will then put us in profit. Each club can roll over a 39m debt in three years. From what I was told the sales offset us to allow us to go for it next season.

A bit disappointed in no action on our part but then again the current squad is more than capable of doing the business. When I see the money being spent, with no guarantees, it makes me wonder what is the key to success and how far can you stretch limited budgets like ours. For many of our sakes and sanity I hope we make the playoffs otherwise all we will see on this site will be the questioners asking why we didn't act in this window and get some quality players in to try and seal the deal. For many previous seasons I was one of those asking that very question but this season I didn't think the desperate need to sign someone, anyone, was as apparent as in past campaigns, so let's just hope we have the tenacity and desire to prove the decision not to paddle in the transfer puddle was well handled. Only the next 4 months will show whether we were right or wrong, and then will be the time for the juries to reach their verdict.

    Onwards and upwards lads.

Rob sums up exactly how I feel <ok> Semenyo is "one of our own" and deserves a chance

You may consider it complaining but that is only your opinion, I have mine as does every other individual on here, I often get frustrated at some individuals on here that pretend to have all of the answers as if they have just read the book of Solomon and deaf ears if alternative points of view is expressed.

It's an open house for debate, I rate SL, I don't have to lay down and kiss his ass all the time if I consider some actions crap, if that is not acceptable, tough.

Interesting if true - we've seen other clubs get stung by not being able to abide by FFP rules and the stadium redevelopment has probably played its part in needing to be restrained. That said, to sell the players we did and end up with arguably a better balanced squad was remarkable.

Very little business seemed to take place at all, not just us. As the fees involved in football continue to spiral, finding value is getting more and more difficult, particularly in the January window when clubs, understandably, don't want to let any of their key players go unless it's well above their market value/their contracts are running down and they have a replacement lined up.
