Absolutely agree, this result does show, and you would think Ehab would have learnt by now, is that thin squad crumbs in the end, as it gets found out with injuries, suspensions and the like. But you are right, to be in the position at this stage of the season after the way we started is nigh on a miracle.
If Nigel could smell something was wrong in the dressing room before the game his rallying cry can't be up to much. I can't imagine Alex Ferguson ever coming out with something like that. He had ways of changing the mood. The last few days of the transfer window will tell us where the club is heading. I think we all know the answer.
I don't think we need to overreact, we just didn't turn up but after going 10 games unbeaten, recently winning 6 in a row a defeat was always going to come it is unrealistic to expect any team to go unbeaten for any longer. No-one played well, our midfield was anonymous which is disappointing as they have been playing well. The basics where poor today, simple passes. Poor McKenzie was so nervous and he made a couple of mistakes. He needed his captain to come put his arm rounded or an old figure like Elphick. We really missed a leader out there today to go and put a tackle in on Dack and Graham early. We gave them so much space and time on the ball all day. But, Adkins has shown he can get the most out of this squad and I reckon we will get back to winning ways next week. We really need some defenders, I feel for Adkins you can tell he has been banging on to the owners to get one but he is fighting a losing battle.
I take your point, but to be fair you are comparing apples with Oranges. Alex Ferguson always had enough talented players to freshen up any side, Nigel doesn't have that luxury. I've been in dressing rooms when a couple of your best players are missing and you bring in a couple of lesser capable replacement, it really can affect the confidence of the team. The team in front of the back four subconsciously don't want to go forward as much, as they feel they have to protect the players coming in, which totally changes the mindset. As you say the next few days will tell you where the clubs ambitions are, but I think we know Ehab, he thinks things can be done on a shoestring, so don't expect any great revelations.
We need Jordy back ASAP, who would have said that at the beginning of the season (even more so Kev Stewart!!) So these guys are positives in the big picture and Nige has clearly had a lot to do with their development
