I'm not sure what committee you're talking about. I know talks of a breakaway super league have been going on since the 1990's but the 'founding members' I was talking about are the teams who sent representatives to a secret meeting - 2016? - to hold serious talks about actually putting together plans for creating the breakaway league. Der Spiegel leaked this - http://www.spiegel.de/international...-for-elite-league-of-top-clubs-a-1236447.html .... it's a long read but interesting.
The organisation was originally set up to protect the interests of its members and show unity and strength in its negotiating power with Uefa. I'd say they are now stronger than Uefa in terms of financial matters, without the G14 clubs Uefa would be nothing.
You're right and they know it. Conspiracy theory alert: all the changes to the CL for instance to ensure the top clubs stay in the competitions longer. Keep them apart for as long as possible to maintain interest > make more money > make top clubs more successful > make more money > keep them happy so they won't want to break away ......
I was talking about G11 which later became G14. Man City weren't initially part of that group, the only English clubs that were involved were Liverpool and Man Utd, Arsenal being added when they bumped it up to 14. Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea are not 'Founder Members'. (Thanks to FSG for doing the research)
Thanks for the explanation. tbh I haven't taken much interest in it over the years and most of what I know is the relatively recent stuff that I've read. I think we've seen enough greed in the game without the need to take it further away from the match going fans. Who's going to be able to afford trips all round Europe as the weekly norm? Not to mention completely losing touch with your roots. The game's never going back to where it was - sorry Page put your shilling away - but it's moving far too quickly in a money grabbing direction for my liking. You only have to look at what a lot of the talk is about these days to see that the money side of the game is actually occupying the thoughts of a lot of fans as well.
Yes, I'm clearly obsessed for mentioning the two other sides in the top four that weren't involved in that game. I also didn't mention all of our other injuries, as I was talking about our lack of firepower.
I think I'm correct(could be wrong)in saying Man Utd weren't initially involved in the preliminary meetings paving the way for the G11, it was only after those meetings other clubs including Utd were invited to join. The meetings took place before Fergie's had won his first CL trophy.
What a stunning insight. I wish someone would have mentioned that before. Probably wouldn't have prevented us having our top four goalscorers unavailable to start the match though, eh?
You knew your 2nd best goalscorer would be unavailable since the last window. Your 3rd best goalscorer came on after 68 minutes on the bench.
You've not lost Eriksen so it's not us losing those four. Plus you've got the likes of Lamela and Llorente as backup, we've got Origi and, erm.... Markovic?
Completely agree about our being pure greed. I'd stop following Liverpool of they separated to join a super league
Precisely my point. Take out any team's four top scorers and they'll probably struggle for goals. I picked your top four and City's as examples. Llorente's not right for the way that we play, unfortunately. We switched to suit him in the second half, he scored and then we took him off.
No but it proves that your excuse is really that Kane #bottledit against Man Utd, you didn't plan for Son being gone, and you chose not to start your best available striker. BTW you scored in the game and you didn't even need to, your problem was your defence
No doubting every team would struggle without for key players; although I think Alli being out makes you stronger #overrated My point was, your backup players are still better than most. You just need to change style slightly to get the best out of them. You also knew Son was going a long long time ago but didn't plan.
