When I was a kid during the war we used to call Chicken wire "Fanny" wire because apparently if you put your hands on either side and rubbed them together if felt like a fanny.

 

Originally the word "fanny" was an American term for the backside. I don't know why we decided it should be a term for a ladies front bottom to be honest.

 

We Brits used the word before the hamshanks Drew, it's they who bastardised it.
