On a different note, I don't know if any of you venture on to the Sunderland board, but Burley Hurley died this morning. Very sad, he was a top bloke on their board.

2 weeks ago someone was arguing he was OK signing at best. Been buzzing bout him since his first match. Similar to Maguire the way he brings the ball out, bit faster in defence too. 3 million, ridiculous value for money.

This ................ Ashley will be wondering what all the fuss is about ................... he will be convinced survival is guaranteed .................. any spending will be a waste of money ..................... and calculating how much more he can lump onto the price of he club.

Well done Rondon. It’s extremely rare to see true sportsmanship in the Premier League.<ok>

Rondon was ****ing amazing. At first I thought Kennedy had upped his game, I was pretty wrecked like. He played a false 9 and was like someone else completely, step overs, skills, nice passes, rarely looking for the shot, not stranded at the top.

Schar it goes without saying. Saw somebody say Fernandez and Lejuene are our best defenders. I disagree, its Lejuene and Schar.

Hayden I'm sure looked like he couldn't care less again. Except he clearly didn't (again) and got an assist to boot. Ritchie at LWB was spot on defensively, much more confident with his crosses and dribbling as well. Good to see Longs

All in all a good show. I know its only Cardiff but when taken in context with performances against bigger teams, we haven't been as bad as some would like to believe this season. As ever, we need money for attacking players. I'd prefer another striker to the fabled AM right now, a clinical finisher with good attacking movement would absolutely fix this team right now. Shame they cost money.

Apparently Mike met with Rafa today. I can imagine how that conversation went
"Well Rafa, I was ready to spend but then you went and beat Cardiff. Naturally, its your fault I intend to ride my luck til the end of the season again"

Not doubting him here but he has had a few dodgy moments, and was poor in the Blackburn game at home. But apart from that he has been spot on.

I agree about Lejeune and Schar our best defenders, but if we're going 3 at the back Lascelles should be out of the side, Lejeune Schar and Fernandez is a very good back 3, gives us a good mix too with Fernandez being the 'destroyer' and the other 2 good with the ball

I've put money on Schar a few times for him to be 1st scorer, typical I didn't bother today

Odd that you do to be fair. Probably why I'm **** at betting. I'd have put Lascelles down as my long shot, purely from the corners.
Yeah he's not perfect but I remember everyone going nuts with Lejuene over one game (Spurs I think it was) and by the end of the season we were all up his arse. I think he's adjusting well like, next season is promising.
I agree re: Fernandez but I must have some weird penchant for those trademark Lascelles last ditch tackles.. I'm quite happy to see him in the team

I was really impressed with Rondon. Still can't make my mind up if Cardiff were piss poor in defending, giving him more space than usual or he was just playing really well. Most likely a bit of both. Another point on Rondon. Does anyone thi k for a big lad he's just a bit too nice? I was properly slagging him off when he knocked the ball out after one of theirs took a ball in the face. There's no ****ing way someone like Shearer would have done that, he'd have been too busy kicking the lad out of the way whilst trying to notch!

Rondons first touch at bringing a ball down from a height is sublime. The same goes for his hold up play, very hard to get the ball off him before bringing others into play.

Massive shame that as he was one of the good ones from over there. Didn't seem to have the same chip on his shoulder.

Great result. I have to say though, Cardiff were dreadful. I didn't know what to expect as they have picked up some results since the end of November. Out of their 9 games before facing us they'd picked up 11 points, W 3 D 2 L 4. They just could not stick two passes together which made things easy for us.

The defenders had great games for us. Schar, Lejeune and Lascelles were all excellent. Schar stole the show, but I have to say defensively Lejeune and Lascelles were superb, both made a number of blocks which were purely down to reading of the game. Yedlin and Ritchie did well.

The midfield were all 6/10. They struggled early on and were a bit lost. A few did not look to have any interest which did raise a few groans in the crowd. About mid way through the first half though, they all seemed to pick up. Hayden and Longstaff worked hard. Hayden just is not cut out for this level of football full stop. His best bet is what he did on Saturday. Graft his bollocks off and just give really simple passes. It cuts down the wastage. Don't get me wrong, the minute you put him in with any quality he'll get mullered again, but there are a few poor sides in the division and he needs to work on just trying to outwork his opposite number. I'm not a fan, and no one will ever convince me he is PL footballer, but credit where it is due he did ok on Saturday.

Atsu was **** on quality again, but he did work hard. Normally he is quite keen to down tools but I thought he got his nut down and worked on Saturday. Rondon was terrific. He is still lazy at times but to be honest no matter how fit you got him, I still think he'd have that in him. Overall though he grafted. Its tough up there in our team. You get so little support around you because we are so defensive - even at home. You'd hope in a game like that you'd dominate possession (60% or more) but I don't think we'd have even managed that. We just lack quality and so keeping the ball seems a challenge.

Overall it was a good result and that is all that matters in our situation. Credit to Rafa too, we looked well drilled. There was a method to every aspect, defending, attacking, patterns of play, set pieces.
